Rockstar is going to rebalance Red Dead Online’s grindy economy

Red Dead Online is available to all Red Dead Redemption 2 players, and if there’s one thing that people are finding it’s that the online bits are needlessly grindy. For most players, it takes over 8 hours of play to earn a single gold bar – which doesn’t really get you very much.

The game has been designed to offer very little reward for a lot of work, “to give the realistic feel of 18th century,” according to Rockstar support. That response naturally went down like a lead balloon, and the usual places on the internet are awash with consumers angry that they’ve bought a game stuffed with mobile game-styled grinding.

The supposition is that the cost of digital items is so high as a way to incentivise people to spend real-world money on better guns and horses. Given what we saw from GTA Online, this shouldn’t be surprising, but I digress.

Rockstar has taken the feedback into consideration and will be readjusting Red Dead Online’s economy.

“Our current areas of focus include the in-game economy, which will require some additional balancing in order to ensure all activities are appropriately rewarding and fun, as well as some persistent bugs that are causing some players to be kicked from sessions,” said Rockstar. “The game has been developed so that we will be able to quickly make any adjustments like these, and we plan to get updates out as early as the end of this week with more updates to come next week.”

While I wouldn’t expect overwhelming changes to RDR Online’s economy, it might be prudent to delay grinding for gold until the next update is out. Remember, the online bit is still in beta, and your rank and stats might not carry through anyway.

“The game has been developed so that we will be able to quickly make any…” money. There I fixed it.
