Rocksteady making progress on Arkham Knight’s poor port

Batman: Arkham Knight is an incredible game that looks and performs a wee bit worse than it rightly should on PC. Though the game’s been removed from sale for now, that doesn’t mean Rocksteady has abandoned the PC version until it’s on shelves again. They’re furiously busy trying to fix things, detailing a list of things they’re trying to better.

“Rocksteady is leading our team of developers and partners as we work on the PC performance issues that players have been encountering.  The work is significant and while we are making good progress on improving performance, it will take some time to ensure that we get the right fixes in place. Below is the list of the key areas where we are dedicating our resources to improve the experience for our loyal fans,” they said on the game’s support pages.

  • Support for frame rates above 30FPS in the graphics settings menu
  • Fix for low resolution texture bug
  • Improve overall performance and framerate hitches
  • Add more options to the graphics settings menu
  • Improvements to hard drive streaming and hitches
  • Address full screen rendering bug on gaming laptops
  • Improvements to system memory and VRAM usage
  • NVIDIA SLI bug fixes
  • Enabling AMD Crossfire
  • NVIDIA and AMD updated drivers

They’ve already released a patch that updates the Pc version to graphically match the console ones where transparency effects – like rain – and ambient occlusion are concerned. The 67Mb patch (which is tiny as far as patches are concerned) is available right now. Here’s what else the patch fixes:

  • Fixed a crash that was happening for some users when exiting the game
  • Corrected an issue that was causing Steam to re-download the game when verifying the integrity of the game cache through the Steam client
  • Fixed a bug that caused the game to crash when turning off Motion Blur in BmSystemSettings.ini. A future patch will enable this in the graphics settings menu

Arkham Knight is the latest game from publisher Warner Bros Interactive that’s had a shoddy, outsourced PC port. Where Arkham Knight was farmed out to Iron Galaxy, Mortal Kombat X’s beleaguered PC version was developed by High Voltage. Neither gives Pc games the game they, or their hard-earned money deserve.

“We would like to thank our fans for their patience and invaluable feedback. We will continue to monitor and listen for any additional issues,” support concludes.

What’s irritating is that some PC gamers that aren’t having much problems are complaining about this. “The vocal minority is at it again.” It’s working for me, therefore there is no problem. Yes. I guess Rocksteady just acknowledged a phantom problem and pulled it from Steam for jokes.

its a good point, i got hit hard by the poor port & steam integration on release, with my disks only having 7gb of the 33gb install, but now that ive got it installed and changed the framerate from 30fps to 60fps, mine is running pretty much perfectly.

sofar, im 70% of the way through the game after a weekend of play and have only had 1 crash and ive fallen through the floor once.
all at a silky 60 fps.

games not all that bad, my biggest complaint now is that its too easy. in origins, i remember grinding for ages trying to beat deathstroke, sofar, none of the bosses have put up anything remotely resembling a fight.
and batman has all the personality of a wooden stick. its all gloom and doom “i am the knight, must bring this guy to justice” it has nowhere near the depth of the comic books.

Watching how WB handled this, i actually ended up purchasing the game on the weekend. One of the first AAA titles actually removed from stores. I have to give it to WB. they put a product before profit. If this was Ubisoft or EA they would have left it and given us a plethora of patches

Agreed but you do have to wonder how it got past QC in the first place though. Picked it up on PS4 and I must say it is a fantastic title.

Who knows why tbh, but atleast they are waking up to the fact that you cant just port a shittier version to an upgraded platform, and expect people to be happy. Laziness i tell you.

Technically they put profit before product by not properly testing it. I still have lost my respect for WB. They were forced to remove it because it was unplayable.
Sure, Ubi and EA wouldn’t have done the same. But that doesn’t mean WB considered the customers first. They had to release a broken game to realise that the pc customers are important. Just my opinion

And i cant argue with that. But atleast they pulled it. I would rather have a game pulled because its not up to standard than saying “Well this is what you were hyped for soz its so shit, but some mediocre patches will do oh, and have this dlc”.

Id rather have them pull it entirely than have a half-assed product.
but again. The game should have never ever been in this state to begin with. But hey atleast they pulled it 😀
