With the fervour over the recent Rugby World cup dying down, now’s a good time to stoke the fire again. While it ideally should have been released during the World Cup to capitalise on that, Rugby 20 is readying itself for a January 23 2020 launch. The game’s already got a playable beta available to those who’ve pre-ordered, but the selection of teams and licences in the beta is limited.
Developer Eko Software and publisher Big Ben Interactive have now revealed the full list of licenced teams and tournaments that’ll be available in the game when it launches.
When it’s out in January, the game will include 69 official teams, four licensed leagues and over 2000 official players. As you may notice, there’s a distinct lack of Springboks, the current Rugby World Cup Champions, which stings a little. That’s probably got something to do with politics and SARU and whatnot, but the net result of it is that you’ll have to play with a South African team devoid of the official insignia and with names like Soya Khaleesi, Frankie Mustard and Andre Bollard.

It’s been an awfully long timer since there’s been an exceptional Rugby game. While I’m hopeful that this is good, I think it’s best to keep that optimism cautious.

The lack of licensed teams or players does not irk me that much. They just need to absolutely NAIL the gameplay experience and career mode if they have it. I can live with Andre Bollard kicking the winning conversion if the play leading up to it was as solid as Beast in the scrums in the final!

True. While it’s nice to play as an established player, most of the enjoyment of playing sports games is how you use the game’s tactics to win.
