Rugby fans rejoice! There may be real Rugby game coming soon

The first Rugby World Cup 2015 screenshots hit the Internet last week and were rightfully lambasted as that game is looking truly terrible. However games aren’t all about graphics so it may be great! Actually no it probably won’t since it is built on the same base game as Rugby 2015 which was roundly panned as one of the worst sports games in recent memory.

Seriously the current Metacritic rating for Rugby 2015 on PS4 is 19%. So really we all knew the Rugby World Cup 2015 game from the same publisher was going to be bad –  but look at these graphics:

We are in the 4th (debateable) generation of the consoles since the 3D revolution and you wouldn’t be shocked if these screenshots came from the PS2 version.

But don’t despair Rugby fans as according to YouTuber, TheScottishCannon, SARU has officially confirmed that while the Springboks aren’t in the videogame for Rugby World Cup 2015 you are going to be able to play as them in another Rugby game that is expected to be released in September.

The game, Rugby Challenge 3,  is expected to come from Tru Blu entertainment.

Quite simply this is the response Daniel (ScottishCannon) received from the South African Rugby Union

Hi Daniel,

SA Rugby is in the process of developing a licensed digital interactive gaming product with HES Interactive, which will include the Springboks and Springbok Sevens national teams as well as the respective Super Rugby franchises and regional (Currie Cup) teams. The game is due to be released in September. The South African rugby teams will therefore not feature in the 2015 Rugby World Cup video game.

Many thanks

Now granted Daniel doesn’t show the email addresses so this could be a big scam but he does have a history of revealing valid information, so I seriously doubt it is.

Unfortunately since HES Interactive and Tru Blu haven’t even announced the game yet we can’t really do a fair comparison with the above World Cup screenshots but as a sporting fan myself I am truly hoping RC3 will at least offer an improvement over the World Cup visuals.

So for now we sit in anticipation of an announcement and hopefully this rumour is true. To end of here is a video from Daniel chatting about which game he thinks will be better.

Not so much choke in the 2nd half as, all out defence when we have a lead.

Does one normally paint your body green when watching a Rugby game? I’m not sure how this sport thing works.

Rugby Challenge was worth my cash. Even though they couldn’t license any of the South African teams. I mean the Bulls had a Cheetah on their flag FFS. One cool thing about the game was unlocking a team with 15 Jonah Lomus and onther 7 on the bench.

Well the RWC game is in deep then… we already knew they didn’t have the NZRU or ARU licenses, because HES held onto them last time, and apparently they still haven’t secured England, so that means Rugby Challenge 3 may have all the official teams of all the previous world cup champions. Pretty big coup if so.

Question is, if it’s being released as early as september, how come we haven’t seen anything??

Yeah that is the big question right now.

After the lacklustre reception the world cup title got you’d think they would be telling everyone about theirs?

You would, but from what I’ve read they have to nail down a few final licensing issues for it all to be official and won’t say anything until it’s done. Thing is, we don’t even know who the developer is at this stage – just that it’s not Sidhe or BigAnt.

The Rugby World cup 2015 game will be a dud, I expect the gameplay to more or less the same as the previous Rugby 15 game with just a world cup makeover. Hopefully im wrong but I doubt it. Not going to make the mistake of pre ordering it this time.

I played all the Rugby Challenge games, and I suppose I just thought they were a bit meh.. Hard to express really. The gameplay to me became boring. Been a while since I played, but I just remember it always looking like the try was on but the defence would always get there. An when I did score a try it didnt feel that satisfying.

I have been waiting for a decent rugby game for so long. If only we had iterative improvements on Rugby 08, we could have something really good by now. The rugby world cup 2011 game was the last fairly decent Rugby game i’ve played.. An tbh that was pretty bad.
