A rumour has popped up in the latest issue of EGM magazine that tells of a few features that may be seen in Gears of War 3. From the looks of things, the Gears of War team at Epic have already begun development on Gears of War 3 even though 2 just walked out the door.

The original rumour slated Gears of War 3 for a 2009 release but it seems as though it is now looking to be 2010, which is very possibly going to be one of the last big hits to send off the Xbox 360 as the next generation console is ushered in.

As stated above, there are rumours of new features that might be added for the new game, let’s see what they are.

Rumour has it that a lot of tweaks are being made to the graphics engine yet again, however you have to wonder about how much more they could possibly squeeze out of the Unreal Engine 3.

We could be looking at a new 5 player co-op experience, which could be more of an expanded version of the popular Horde Mode and if we are really lucky, will be a 5-player campaign but I highly doubt that Epic will do something like that, considering that the exclusion of 4 player co-op in Gears of War 2 was a design choice and not a technical limitation.

If this final chapter finishes off the trilogy then we have to wonder where Epic will take the story next. Gears of War 4 is likely to be an “Xbox 720” launch title and it is very likely that we will be taking a trip back in time, or even possibly the future. The question is, will Marcus Phoenix still be involved?

That’s enough speculation on Gears of War 3 and 4, my copy of Gears of War 2 still smells like fresh plastic so I am not going to spend too much time wondering about what comes next.

  1. I’m glad it’s not 2009, a GoW every year? kinda too much. Let us enjoy the 2nd episode for a while before paying again for another game
