Like the old saying goes: Too many cooks upset Gordon Ramsay and get sworn at in very creative fashion. Or something like that. The point is that often when too many people are trying to do same thing, it often ruins the end result. This was one of the most well known problems with Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 as it threw too many villains into the brew, without developing any of them properly. Now with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already up to two confirmed villains – Electro and the Rhino – with a possible third – Norman Osborn/Green Goblin – some are getting a little worried.

Well, if you’re one of those “some” then you’re going to get downright neurotic at this latest rumour which suggests that there are a lot more villains on the way.

Thus far we knew that Jamie Foxx will play Electro, Paul Giamatti will play The Rhino and Chris Cooper would play Norman Osborn, but there was one more casting which we know very little about, that of Colm Feore. Well ComicBookMovie think they know not only who he’s playing but also how he ties into the story.

Now none of what follows has been confirmed, but it may still turn out to be true, in which case I’m putting up a big SPOILER WARNING for anybody that wants to stay story-detail free.

According to CBM’s sources, Feore has signed on to play none other than Adrian Toomes, aka The Vulture, the winged villain that’s been a part of Spidey’s rogues gallery for decades. Immediately, I have to say that on pure looks alone, Feore is actually a pretty good match for Toomes, so there is some legitimacy to the story in that regard.

CBM go on to say that not only is Vulture in the film, but that we will indeed be witnessing the transformation of Norman Osborn into the Green Goblin in this film, and not in the third installment as many suspected. In fact, we will definitely be seeing that sceneFor those of you keeping track at home, that would bring us to a total of four villains for one movie. But apparently that’s only the beginning.

CBM claim that at the end of the movie, these four – who had all been beaten by Spidey individually throughout the movie – would band together under the leadership of Green Goblin, and with an additional two villains who have not yet been announced, would go on to form The Sinister Six. These six would then be the final antagonists for The Amazing Spider-Man 3.

I have to admit, it’s a rather ambitious plan and one that will certainly get the geeks talking (case in point, I’m talking to you guys about it right now!) but if not handled very carefully by the director and screenwriter could leave everybody with some webbing on their face. Now, for all its faults and shortcomings, if there was one thing that The Amazing Spider-Man did really well, it was establishing and building characters and their relationships to each other. That was all thanks to a combination of director Marc Webb’s very deft touch and some superb casting. As such, there is definitely hope that if this is the route that the story is indeed taking, then this might just actually work.
