According to the rumour mill, Nintendo won’t be the only company showing of its next-generation console at E3 this year. According to MCV – who seem to be pretty confident about this – both Microsoft and Sony will unveil their next consoles at E3 in June.
They imply that external companies – Microsoft’s “partner’s” and Sony’s “Third parties” have indicated that the platform holders intend to show of their next-gen wares. If true, this will be the first time in the history of E3 that all major platform holders have new hardware that will go head to head…to head. It would also make fore just about the most exciting E3 in recent history.
It’s unlikely that, should Microsoft and Sony debut new hardware, they’ll have any information on pricing or launch availability – but it would certainly rain on Nintendo’s parade.
Both Microsoft and Sony have often said that they intend for their current consoles to have long legs; Kinect’s meant to be the interim between Microsoft’s 6 -year-old and the next, while Sony’s bandied about its 10 year plan for the PlayStation 3 since its release. That was five years ago.
What do you think? Will we be seeing new hardware soon? Do you even want new console hardware, or or you happy with the systems you currently own?
