Rumour–PlayStation 4 PS Plus will get ‘Triple A’ games

PS plus

I don’t think we need to go through the song and dance yet again of how PlayStation Plus is a massively valuable service for anyone who has a subscription. The service has proven itself, with heaps of great games from first class studios on the PlayStation 3 so far. On the PS4 however? It hasn’t been the biggest titles so far, that have been free. Expect that to change in the future.

So far, PlayStation 4 PS Plus games have been mostly indie fare, with games such as Outlast, Resogun, Don’t Starve, Contrast and the recently released Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition being offered to gamers.

Make no mistake, those are mostly good games, especially the superb Resogun which I’m still playing. But they aren’t the kind of games that will draw in more mainstream audiences who want value for their money. Industry insider Ahsan Rasheed (via OPM) however, says that more games are on the way, from bigger studios. Take it with a pinch of salt, but his track record has been solid so far:

I’ve got no problem with seeing indie games get the spotlight on PS Plus. But sooner or later, that instant game collection is going to need to be augmented in order to draw more gamers in. It’s understandable that right now, Sony can’t exactly provide such games early on in the PS4 life cycle or they’ll jeopardise the momentum for various developers.

At the same time, I can see Sony making an announcement at E3 regarding this, and I’ll put easy money down on Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed 4 making the PS Plus jump later this year. First though? I’d wager Knack will be getting the PS+ treatment. It’s already included as a pack-in with every PS4 sold in Japan.  After all, it’s not as if the current library is crawling with candidates, and it’d be a cold day in hell before you find Call of Duty standing next to the words “Free on PS Plus”.

As for free games, has anyone been accumulating points on the RAPTR (AMD Gaming Evolved App)? I’m on almost 10k points, and it seems some games are 12.5k points, and Titanfall is 25k points

I’ll say it again, laying off people to afford this is not the right way to do business!

He’s drawing the conclusion that Sony’s recent restructuring, selling of the PC division (cuts 5000 jobs in 2015-16), and the spinoff of the TV division, was done so that they can give away games on PS+, I should not have to point out the insanity of that conclusion.

Yeah, the amount of money involved in these moves far, far, far, far exceed the amount of money that Sony will be spending on getting AAA titles to the PS+ free library.

It’s very likely, however, that the PS+ subscriptions will be contributing their revenue to that endeavor.

Exactly. Lets not forget MP is no longer free. Sony PS Plus has never been more popular. More then 90 percent of PS4 fans pay for plus.. Thats alot of new revenue. Now its time to give back to the people who paid to get free games!! South Park and GTA online!!!!

Funny how BF4 and AC4 on the PS4 are the only titles I’ve actually paid for thus far. ==beating head against desk repeatedly==

Obviously…..we cannot expect Sony to give away one/two month old games for free on PS+. Would’ve been nice though…

I am very happy with my FREE PS4 games so far. No complaints from me. In fact I think its great as Sony realise the bigger titles will sell easily enough but are giving some more “obscure” titles the limelight.

Yes that is because of lack of games but for now its a good move. Also the people picking up PS4’s at the moment are a more dedicated demographic? And perhaps they want something different to AAA titles all the time?

No complaints about the indie titles from me. Plus if you held on to your PS3 you have no reason to complain as the games hasn’t stop for the PS3 at all.

PS4 is the first Playstation system that has launched with PS+ so of COURSE the pickings will be slim at first. You see what kind of back catalogue we’ve built up (just PS4 games) by this time next year.

Even before PS+ was required for online play on PS4 I was an avid subscriber and always will be.

Dear lord, patience is a virtue, don’t you think?

The PS4 has been out for what, 3 and a half months tops, and we’re expecting the library of free games to include a tripleA title each month? Have people been paying attention to how many AAA games there are on the new consoles? Are we expecting Killzone ShadowFall to be on PS+ already, AC4 etc..?? Seems rather premature really.

Given how PS+ has functioned on PS3, it seems only a matter of time before AAA titles hit the PS+ offerings. Take a chill pill though, cripes. Maybe give them 6 months before expecting them to give away brand new ~$60 titles.

I hope its Knack for my kid ( even though she already beat it) , but games like AC and BF 4 I already have! Give us stuff like Trine 2, Knack, Drive Club ALREADY, Dynasty Warriors, etc… Anyone would be happy with AC and BF 4, but everyone already has em according to sales. I guess TR Definitve would be good. Keep the games rolling out and make sure the Triple A games will come. PS4 also needs a good update for organization, customization, etc…
