The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a fantastic game. It’s especially so because of the amount of experimentation the game encourages and rewards you for. Whether it be messing with physics to cross fields on massive rocks or using powers to solve clever puzzles, there’s always more than one way to approach a problem. That holds for combat too, which might not be as exclusive to swords and arrows as you might think.
Cuccos, Hyrule’s version of chickens, have always held a grudge against Link. He picks them up, kicks them, and is just generally an ass. It’s why the “angry cucco” has become such a prominent joke in the series, with a swarm of chicken descending on Link until they peck him into a bloody, very dead mess. In past titles that was that, but in a game as diverse as Breath of the Wild it’s no surprise someone has found a way to make this work for them.
So the next time you find yourself in a field with angry Bokoblins, try taking in a cucco instead of a massive greatsword. If you’re as lucky as videogamedunkey, the results might be just as good.
It seems the game registers who inflicted some pain on the poor cucco, and sends a horde of friends to the scene to dish out some sweet justice. That’s great for Link, considering he gets knocked out of the danger zone here, and could certainly become a staple strategy in certain, cucco dense areas. Never mind that it just looks ridiculous and amazing all at once, and perfectly encapsulates why Breath of the Wild’s experimentation is just so darn incredible.
