Do you miss your Sega Megadrive? I know I do, mostly because all this talk of Street Fighter IV in the last week has made me think back to the day that I got my Megadrive, along with Street Fighter 2 Championship edition, as well as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Echo the Dolphin.

Those were the good old days of gaming for me, everything was simple and straightforward and there was no concept of DLC and patches. Great then to know that Sega MegaDrive Ultimate collection is out this week for both the Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3 and features a massive collection of 40 of some of the greatest titles on the system.

Check the full list after the jump.

Not to be pedantic(Ok, I’m really trying my utmost to strive for the upper echelons of pedantry)but the Mega Drive/Genesis version Of Street Fighter 2 was in fact called Street Fighter II’: Special Champion Edition. It was so named as it featured the ability to switch it to Street Fighter II Turbo, or Hyper Fighting.

That was the first of 2 versions of Street Fighter II released for Sega’s 16-bit wonder; the second of course being Super Street Fighter II – The New Challengers.

Also – and I’m surprised I just noticed this now – it’s “Ecco the dolphin”, not echo. You’d expect Echo, considering the premise of the game is to use echolocation – but no, they opted for fancy spelling.

I’m busy mimicking Henry Mancini’s ubiquitous Pink Panther theme, only saying “Pedant” as opposed to the “dead ant” we used in our youths.

    🙂

I hated those lousy Ecco games! Who wants to play as a stupid dolphin??? Playing the old Sonic games on my 360 on the other hand sounds appealing.

Is there a price mentioned anywhere or does someone know how many of the “precious” it is going to cost. This is a great collection and I fondly remember play quite a few of these.

Ah the MegaDrive. Brings back fond memories. I would only buy this for Streets of Rage, Sonic and Golden Axe though. Comix Zone was also decent.

Price is the only thing that is stopping me from buying this, then again if all these titles were available on XBLA, how much would 40 of them cost? I think its a saving on a whole.
