September’s NPD’s are in.. did Pachter get it right?

A few days back we posted about Michael Pachter’s predictions that the Xbox 360 would dominate the September NPD’s with the PS3 quite far behind and the Nintendo Wii languishing in last place.

Well the official stats are out and we can now take a look and see if Michael was onto something.

A quick recap, here are Michael’s predictions

Xbox 360 – 360k
PS3 – 260k
Wii – 190k

And here are the results

Xbox 360 – 438k
PS3 – 374k
Wii – 240k

So yes he managed to get the order right but he was miles off on the actual figures, the Xbox 360 sold nearly 80 000 more units than expected and the Wii sold 50 000 more than expected but the biggest surprise was the PS3 that sold a whopping 114 000 more than previously predicted.

As far as handhelds go we only seem to have Nintendo’s numbers with the 3DS selling 260k and the DS 145k. Solid but not mind blowing sales figures.

All in all retail is down 6% over last year which is unsurprising considering the current economic climate.

When we get to software we have no numbers only a ranking and unbelievably Call of Duty: Black Ops is still in the top 10.

  1. Madden NFL 12
  2. Gears of War 3
  3. Dead Island
  4. FIFA Soccer 12
  5. NHL 12
  6. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
  7. Resistance 3
  8. Lego Star Wars III
  9. Call of Duty: Black Ops
  10. Warhammer 40,000
