Shadow of Mordor arrives October 7

A new Lord of the Rings game, that stars a new hero and features a far higher ratio of ass to kick instead of watching midgets become uncomfortably chummy with one another on an High Elf bed! Hell, I’m already sold. And I still don’t see why everyone is labelling this as an Assassin’s Creed clone.

Shadows of Mordor (2)

…Bugger. Fine, you got me there. Visual similarities aside, the game still looks solid. Here’s the latest trailer for Shadows of Mordor, which sets up the Lord of the Exposition and reveals how Talion was bonded with Casper the unfriendly ghost:

Can’t see the trailer above? Well here’s a quick summary. Shadows of Mordor stars Talion, a ranger who runs afoul of some supernatural Middle Earth forces who come knocking on his door one day, and decide to introduce his wife and son to their swords. And Talion is like all “NOOOO” and the son is also like totally “DAAAAAD” and the wife is sad and stuff. I got distracted by Hobbits at that point, sorry.

Anyway, Talion gets cursed to an undead life where he is barred from death, thanks to his new status as a Wraith that has him bonded with another spirit. Cue sword-based quest for vengeance. The game arrives October 7, but I’d bet a tossed dwarf that our release date is actually the usual Friday launch of October 10. Here’s what a pre-order will net you:

Shadows of Mordor (1)

Dark Ranger Character Skin

Begin your own quest for vengeance with a new Dark Ranger character skin that embodies Talion’s darker side

Test of Power Challenge Mode

Face Sauron’s Captains and defeat them to earn powerful Runes and gain a head start in the game
Test your speed, skill and strategy and measure yourself against your friends on the leaderboards

Access to Exclusive Leaderboards for “Test of Power” Challenge Mode

Test your speed, skill and strategy and measure yourself against your friends on the leaderboards in this challenge mode

Shadow of Mordor will be out on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Considering the amount of people born each second 1 sucker really isn’t that large a portion of the total population.
Unfortunately most of those suckers are born into 1st world countries and will be the ones buying the games.

If you make it the casual market will buy it. Remember, that’s why most games are made these days. To sell, no matter how shit they are.

Every pre order I’ve made in the last two years have resulted in serious burn trauma. I’ve been to the burn ward far too often to give anyone my preorder love.

Except then Diablo 3: RoS came along and fixed the broken Diablo 3. And I pre ordered it. And it worked. And it was a game for gamers. I’m so totally lost and confused now. 🙁

To pre order or not to pre order? That is our eternal struggle. Our great conflict.

        Same here. Pre-orders no more
There’s one single exception for me though. And that’s because we already know the game. Homeworld remake.

WB are usually very good with their spit and polish. This will be a good game and give Dane’s Inferno a run for its money.

But with games being R799 for the usual 5-8 hours of gameplay then count me out. I will pick it up 3 years from now.

The same reason why the older Final Fantasy games are better than todays games. READING opens up more avenue’s to the imagination.

      Modern voice acting ruined it.

It was probably the worst menu I’ve ever seen in a game with the fewest options ever. And that awful co-op that only worked the first time and then never wanted to sync because of some ‘save’ error.

Middle Earth fashion in the header above certainly looks nothing like the late 15th – early 16th Century, Europe (*cough* Italy *cough). Nor does our protagonist appear to look anything like the badass Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Me thinks this vicious rumours are naught more than slander! Baseless accusations levelled at a series of faultless games!
