Shape the world as an extra race in Dragon Age: Inquisition

Bioware made some serious mistakes in Dragon Age II that prevented it from being a great game. One of those errors was forcing the player to be a human named Hawke. This time around, you get to choose your race: human, elf, dwarf or Qunari.

Revealed at PAX and explained in detail by PC Gamer, it turns out that there’s a new race of playable characters in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Yup, those strange, horned people – like my favorite character from Dragon Age: Origins, Sten. Also, I enjoyed the interactions with the Arashok in DA II. Yeah, I’m definitely going to give the game a whirl as an awesome Qunari.

Each race will have a unique back story, like Dragon Age: Origins. This will certainly add some  immersion back into the game that was sorely missing in the second installment. We have also been told that your choice of race will affect relationships with other characters and classes – it will be interesting to see how these choices play out in this iteration.

Additionally, I’m really intrigued by the idea of fortresses in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Each province will include one to two fortresses. One of your primary objectives upon arriving in a new territory will be to claim an Inquisition stronghold, but it is up to you what kind of outpost you make it. You could designate it as a military fortress, or a mercantile trading point; different outposts will offer different advantages and disadvantages. In this way, you will have direct effect on what kind of organization the Inquisition becomes – you can add subtlety to the institution, or make it merciless and aggressive.

Once you own a fortress, you can send Inquisition agents out to change the world. Activities can include resource gathering, opening roads or even rebuilding monuments. Sounds like an awesome extra metagame that will add something new and different to the Dragon Age franchise.

I’ve gotta say, this is a game I’m really getting excited about. I enjoyed both Dragon Age games – despite DA II’s flaws, it was still a good game – and I think that this iteration will take the world of Thedas to a whole new level. Now let’s just hope it lives up to expectations!

That sounds really cool, I’ve always enjoyed having a little fortress in a game that I can call my own.

Damned Bioware.. you are doing it to me again! Keep this up and I might even end up forgiving your abusive nature.. again! “And now, for the epic final battle! You must choose between the blue, red or green dragon to slay! YOUR CHOICES WILL MATTER… after the credits.”

I can still describe the feelings I had in detail. Such a severe ending. Totally emotional. Really felt so involved and like it was worth it. THEN, “choose your ending”

I only had the extended cut, so no blue/red/green ending issues for me!

Hmmm, sounds like this game might just be worth a look. Never touched Dragon Age 1 or 2…

I’d highly recommend Dragon Age origins (Highly Recommended), Dragon Age 2 on the other hand, meh… avoid, and only buy if you can find it for under R100 in a bargain bin.

DA2 gets a bit of a harsh rap. Yeah it was nothing on origins but it wasn’t as bad as some people make out. Biggest gripes are reused textures and environments. And the level of customization (actual role playing) was cut quite drastically.
