Much to my surprise, I rather enjoyed the last Sherlock Holmes games from developer Frogwares. It skilfully blended Ye Olde Victorian aesthetic with a few visual cues lovingly pilfered from more recent adaptations of 221b Baker Street’s most famous deductionists and drug addicts.

“With clever puzzles and a dash of modern sensibilities inspired by the BBC show, Crimes and Punishments is an easy recommendation to armchair detectives – and the first to let players really experience being Sherlock Holmes,” I said in my review.

Of course the pedantic among you might quite right point out that what Sherlock Holmes does isn’t deductive reasoning at all. If anything, Holmes employs Inductive reasoning, which extrapolates upon observed information to arrive at conclusions which may not have been observed at all. He formulates probable solutions, which for the sake of narrative reasoning usually end up being correct.

But once again, I digress. The point of this ramble is to point out that there’s another Sherlock Holmes game on the way. It’s called Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter and it promises more investigation and exploration.

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter is an incredible adventure game with unique gameplay blending investigation, action and exploration for an extraordinary experience that will test the limits of players’ nerves and intelligence. Playing as the great detective, they will have to track down evil in the darkest corners of London and the human spirit, freely exploring several neighbourhoods in the city in search of clues and suspects while they untangle a web of intrigue leading to the final stunning revelation.

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter offers unique game mechanics and an epic storyline for an interactive and immersive experience unlike any they have ever had before. For the first time, the powers of analysis and composure of Sherlock Holmes will be shaken by emotion as he is caught between family, dark forces and powerful thirsts for vengeance….

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil’s Daughter is coming to PC, PS4 and Xbox One on May 27.

Did the person who wrote that description just find out about adjectives?

It is a bit overwrought, isn’t it?

It’s like the spirit of Conan Doyle is being channeled to write that description.

WOOHOOOOOOO!!!!! Love these games. They are getting better every time. Crimes & Punishment was good but The Testament of Sherlock Holmes had puzzles that had me Google for walkthroughs… It was pure enjoyment all the way. Will definitely pick this up day one.
