ShopTo.net stops delivering to South Africa

ShopTo

Apparently ShopTo.net has started refusing to sign up new clients in South Africa.

According to a post on the local PS3ZA forum when you try to sign up now you will received an email that states

“Unfortunately we have had to remove South Africa from our list of shipping destinations, due to the majority not reaching their destination. Sorry we’re not able to do business at this time, hopefully the situation will improve in the future and we’ll be able to start shipping there again.
Regards,
ShopTo Support”

Now while I am sure the local retailers and distributors are over the moon about this but lets not be silly and start pointing fingers at them, they obviously have nothing to do with this.

The finger should be pointed directly at all the local gamers who have taken ShopTo for a ride by claiming their packages have been lost when there has been a delay and then not returning the original package when it does arrive.

You have heard people say things like “Who will it hurt” and “They are insured” before and now you know the answer. It hurts everyone else and now the majority of local gamers have to pay for your greed.

What I would like to know is whether or not you have ordered a game from ShopTo.net that never arrived? I know about the SK debacle that has now been cleared up but I haven’t heard of anyone else’s parcels going missing.

I ordered my SFIV from them and it got lost in 03/2009. I filled out the lost parcel claims for and asked for a new copy to be shipped to me. +- 3 to 4 weeks later I received my replacement copy. This one that went missing…well it still hasn’t arrived!!!

After that I ordered Prince of Persia and received it +- 3 weeks after dispatched with Royal Mail.

My question to shopto is… will they pay out the credit left in my top up account!!!

I also have a friend that ordered a PSP game from Shopto this morning (after reading the post on the PS3ZA forum) to test what happens and the order went through… will have to see whether they cancel the order or actually process it.

I have spoken to them a month ago to find out if they still shipping and the salesman assured me that they are.

Royal Mail is to blame for this IMO.

I have ordered about 7 games from shopto in the last few months. I haven’t had one go missing. Maybe I’m just lucky.
I guess I’ll go back to dvdcrave then (not as good prices but still cheaper than here).

What I want to know is how much Megarom and the rest paid you to put this article out….?

All my parcels arrived, non lost, but I don’t doubt it for a second that there are lots of people out there who did actually lose their parcels. SAPO and customs might also be to blame in some cases…

But go ahead and blame your readers, since it’s obviously us. :getlost:

I have ordered a few products from Shopto with great success. I am just happy that I am still a registered customer with them.

I will continue to order from them, as I think their service have been great.

say what? If you must know it started with a PM from a user on the PS3 forum and the accusations are flying all over the PS3ZA forums that I linked to.

I am pointing the finger at the local gamers who have knowingly ripped ShopTo off, not the hard working honest readers of Lazygamer 🙂

Define local..? I take it you mean that as SA local.
Because we are all crimals and can’t be trusted?…that’s why you are sitting in Australia…isn’t it? 😉

Don’t be so quick to pass judgement…we as local SA residents are tired of negativity.
And I know about the PS3 forum, I’m not the lazy one

Don’t take my comments too personally, I just like to point out the otherside of the coin.

South African gaming site therefore local means SA… and no I am in Oz because I received a good offer for my fulltime job and took it but it was a mistake.

    We all make them 😉

I am possibly the most positive person about SA that you know so don’t be so quick to pass judgement

I called the locals out on purpose…

Ok just got confirmation from shopto

    Hi Werner,

Unfortunately this is the case, we are no longer accepting new customers from South Africa due to the majority not reaching their destination. It’s with great regret that we’re having to take this action but as most items don’t arrive it’s just not viable for us to ship to SA anymore.

Does this mean that they still ship to previous customers? Reason I’m asking is, 2 people above have already commented that there games are currently shipping (one person order his yesterday).

There is always more than one side to a story…

Once again, don’t take my comments too personal.

Agree with you on the abusing of something that was good, talk about killing the goose that lays the golden eggs,
but sure more than one guilty party contributed to this decision.

Enjoy reading your site although I don’t always agree

OK, there is probably some truth in people making fraudulent claims of missing parcels. But We cannot deny that a lot of stuff does get lost in our local postal system. I work for a large courier company and I know how much stuff we are losing and how we struggle with theft. Does anyone really think that SAPO is without blame here?
