Bethesda and Skyrim have had one great end of year so far, with the game cleaning up at the Spike Video Game Awards over the weekend. By now, gamers who have been playing the latest entry in the Elder Scrolls universe will have finished most of the main quests and side-missions, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t more to do. Or more yet to come as it seems.

Game Director Todd Howard recently spoke about how the studio intends to release additional content that not only prolongs the Skyrim experience, but works on making the game even better.

“We’re going through ideas right now, and processing everything people are doing in the game, and trying to think of ways that we can improve it”, Howard told Joystiq. “(We) don’t have a timetable. They won’t be quick, and they’ll have a lot of meat on them.”

So some additional quests, content and improvements sounds encouraging so far, but if you’ve been one of those fans who have been begging Bethesda to add a little multiplayer flavour to the game, then you might be sorely disappointed at what Howard has to say about that.

“You can never say never to anything like that, but it’s not what our focus is”, Howard explained. “This type of game is where our hearts are, what we get excited about, and that’s what we want to focus on. We don’t want to lose that focus and we never want to sacrifice anything in the singleplayer game just to have it be multiplayer”.

Having won best RPG and Game of the Year at the Spike VGA’s on Saturday, Howard then commented on the phenomenal success of the latest Elder Scrolls game. “We thought it would do well, but it has gone above and beyond.”
