It’s a sequel! A sequel to a game that I honestly had no idea even existed.I loved Sniper Elite the way a redneck unnaturally loves his rifle, with last years sequel being a guilty pleasure ride of headshots and trying to line up ze Chermans for that killer shot. And seeing as the only thing more popular than Nazis is zombies, it looks like Sniper Elite is spinning another shot at that particular slice disposable enemy in a new sequel.

Out later this year on PC, Sniper Elite: Nazi Zombie Army 2 will see OSS agent Karl Fairburne return to duty alongside three other co-op possible soldiers when he takes on the Nazi occult.

"We really wanted to heighten the demonic, nightmarish tones of the first game," head of creative Tim Jones said to Eurogamer.

The environments, the levels, the soundtrack all give a strong feeling of descent – each encounter, each level becoming progressively more hellish. Most importantly though, we’ve expanded the legions of Nazi undead with some really intimidating new enemies which we’ll reveal soon.

Rebellion is hoping that eventually, the game could reach next-gen consoles as well. "Now there’s the possibility," Rebellion boss Jason Kinglsey said in the same Eurogamer interview.

Before the wasn’t really the possibility of self-publishing, so you couldn’t even begin to think about it. You had to go via a third party and do a deal with somebody else. It made it less and less attractive.

Nazi Zombie Army was a gamble, really. We didn’t know whether it would work. We hoped people would like it. We hoped people would take it in the slightly tongue in cheek way it was meant with the title. And we obviously didn’t have much money to market it.

So we just put it out there and it’s been very very good business and we’ve created a lot of fans who just like a straightforward gory shooter against zombies. It pretty much made its money back on the day of release. That was awesome.

It doesn’t look like a bad game. But to be honest, I’ve never seen co-op sniping as anything other than frustrating unless you can actually work in a group and mark targets. Think I’ll keep an eye out for the third Sniper Elite game instead.

  1. Sniper Elite Zombie is great co-op fun. Still play it often with friends. I’m sold for number two.
