Skyrimdragon

Skyrim, the game that’s currently got its grasp on the minds of gamers everywhere has been out for just 4 days. Just about every gamer I speak to is obsessed with Skyrim – regaling me with their own in-game tales and stories. So it’s certainly popular – but how well’s it been selling?

In short: Incredibly.

In just two days on sale, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has sold over 3.4 million copies at retail. Bear in mind that that doesn’t include digital sales via Steam, so it’s easy to imagine the total being a million higher. Over 2 million of those copies were on Xbox 360 (59%) with 27% on PS3, and the remaining 14% on PC. It’s already managed to obliterate Gears of War 3 and even FIFA 12’s first week sales, and is neck-and-neck with Battlefield 3. It’s sales, of course, pale in comparison to Modern Warfare 3’s but for an RPG – a genre that not exactly brimming with mass-market appeal – it’s pretty damned incredible.

I’ll say this though; Bugs and glitches and silly UI choices aside, it deserves every single sale it gets. Skyrim is the most wholly absorbing game I’ve played in years. Now if it could just loosen its grip on my nuts a bit that’d be great…I’ve got games i need to review!
