Today’s news is all about Sony’s motion-controller, now called Move. This post isn’t going to change that. Zipper Interactive’s recently announced Socom 4 for the PS3 will have full Move support – but it raises the question of whether motion control is a suitable input method for what’s a pretty core online shooter.

The announced Move sub-controller – a much less catchy name than Nunchuk – will control the players movement, with the Love Move Wand controlling the player’s reticule. Thankfully for fans of controls of a more traditional input method can still use the good ol’ DS3 – and hands-on previews report that that’s probably the preferred method.

I’m glad Sony are actually trying to appease the “core” market – everything we’ve seen from Microsoft’s Natal so far smacks of “casual,” but I don;t think Socom 4 is the core game to get me waggling though. Footage from GDC after the jump. Let us know what you think.

What’s great is that the ps3 doesnt have to take a 10-20% performance hit to use it…

You will still get very tired arms after a while and will not work well for long FPS sessions. You will be owned if you play against a person using the standard controls.

Ok , saw the video now , not much arm waving needed so it looks ok and very precise. Could also just use a mouse.
