The latest NPD stats are out for July and Sony must be happy with their performance. While no one got even close to Nintendo.
The official ranking are as follows
- Nintendo DS – 608.4K
- Wii – 555K
- PlayStation 3 – 224.9K
- PlayStation Portable – 221.7K
- Xbox 360 – 204.8K
- Playstation 2 – 155.5K
However Microsoft did have one small thing to smile about and that was by topping the software charts for July (Ignoring the 555k Wii Sports that were bundled).
Software Sales
- NCAA Football 09 (EA, 360) – 397.6K
- Wii Fit (Nintendo, Wii) – 369.6K
- Guitar Hero: On Tour (Activision, DS) – 309.7K
- Wii Play (Nintendo, Wii) – 284K
- NCAA Football 09 (EA, PS3) – 242.5K
- Soulcalibur IV (Namco, 360) – 218.9K
- Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo, Wii) – 174.5K
- Rock Band Special Edition Bundle (EA, Wii) – 165.8K
- Soulcalibur IV (EA, PS3) – 155.8K
- Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution (Take-Two, 360) – 147.6K
By constantly outselling the PS3 in the software stakes Microsoft is reminding the developers who is making the money for them… Which means they will keep getting the top games.
This was has turned out better than anyone could ever have hoped for.

Price drop did nothing for Xbox. Who would have thought that?

1 August I think. So you won’t see if it had an effect in these numbers yet.
