Sony confirms PlayStation Plus July games

Based on information from PlayStation Asia, we surmised that we’d be seeing the rather good Strider and the flipping fantastic Towerfall Ascension as next month’s PlayStation Plus titles for PS4 owners in Europe and the Americas. Sony has since confirmed that as fact – along with what we can expect for their other platforms.

In Europe, PlayStation 3 and Vita owners get a mix of games. Dead Space 3 is the premier PlayStation 3 offering. It’s not a bad game at all, and is a blast to play co-op, but it just doesn’t have provide the thrilling scares found in the first game. It’s also addled with Microtransactions – but is certainly a worthy game to play with a friend.

Joining that is physics-based, steampunk puzzle-platform Vessel, which I’ve not played and am actually quite keen to.

“Arkwright, inventor of the world famous Fluro (mechanized-fluid automaton) is on a quest to finish his next great invention – The Device – that will alter existence in unimaginable ways. However, Fluros begin to mutate and run amok, and it’s up to Arkwright to understand (and exploit) these strange evolutions.”

Europe’s Vita games are…okay. We have LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes, which is a decent enough LEGO game, save for the fact that the Vita version is a port of the 3DS on, with barely any sort of graphical upgrade, which is unfortunate given the handheld’s power. Still, it’s fun to play.

The other vita game is the very, very odd nothing simulator, Doki Doki Universe – which is actually cross-buy on all of Sony’s gaming platforms, so you’ll be able to play this one on Vita, Ps3 and PS4. It’s like getting a bonus free game.

Our chums in the Us get exactly the same stuff, only instead of LEGO batman, they get Muramasa Rebirth, which we’ve already received.

Leaving PS Plus:

2nd July: Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate
2nd July: Trine 2: The Complete Story
2nd July: NBA 2K14
2nd July: Sly Cooper Thieves in Time
2nd July: Puppeteer
2nd July: Lone Survivor
2nd July: Dragon’s Crown
2nd July: Surge Deluxe

Entering PS Plus:

2nd July: TowerFall Ascension
2nd July: Strider
2nd July: Dead Space 3
2nd July: Vessel
2nd July: LEGO Batman 2: DC Superheroes
2nd July: Doki Doki Universe

Now that we know which games we’re getting, what do you think? Towerfall Ascension is seriously some of the best multiplayer fun you’ll ever have, though you will need a stack of extra controllers and some actual friends to make the most of it.

I’m new to PS+, having only just signed up for it for my newly aquired PS4 last year, and the amount of amazing free games which I have amounted since then for PS3 is really giving me the urge to pick up a PS3 now as well…. damn you Sony.. damn you.

It’s a win-win. Just remember to add all the PS+ free games to your download list, then you can download them anytime in the future even after they have left PS+

Like I said in the beginning of the next-gen, now is the best time to own a PS3.

With you on that, PS+ games coming twice the speed I can finish the p[previous one. giving me enough time to save for new PC to again enjoy the steam goodness. At this rate I will probably only purchase a PS4 when the 2nd slim edition comes out at which time I’m going to have a 100+ library of PS4 games to play.

Didnt like DS 3 but getting it free so trying it out. Pretty sad Strider is not for PS3 download as well. But question, can I still DL the PS4 games? for the day when I do eventually get one?

I think so, if you go online to the store through your browser. I did that before I got a Vita

It’s a really good game, boss battles are awesome. Especially the final one.

i’ve been doing that since PS4 launch.

it’s kinda ironic. The day i get a PS4, will probably not be able to afford new titles. So all i’ll have is this super powerful console with a massive collection of indie games that would probably have ran fine on my PS3/XBOX. 😛

No need to download, just go to the PS store and purchase them for free. The title then show up in your download list and when you link a device in the future to the account you download it.

The legacy created by DS1 and DS2 make it a must-play for me.

About DDU: It’s not, unfortunately. Great premise and awesome writing, but insanely repetitive after a couple of hours. You will be bored to tears if you aim at 100% like I did.

Eish! That’s one thing that kills the fun, repetitiveness!

Ikr? It sucks because I really wanted to like the game, being from the same minds that brought us ToeJam & Earl and all that, but it becomes a slog in no time.

I was looking forward to getting Strider at a nice discount the other day, but then the silly community went & voted for a different selection of lame games. Looks like fun.

It’s really annoying when that happens.
I think the games I’ve voted for have won once and there were no games I was interested in for that set.

I’ll probably get both before the sale ends. I want to get my nostalgia on in bright colours.

finally a decent premier title for PS3.
Still wondering when we’ll see retail titles for PS4.

This flood of PS3 games is probably one of the main reasons I’ve not upgraded yet.
