H1Z1 refunds on the horizon

I haven’t really paid much attention to Sony’s Day-Z like title, H1Z1. It’s probably because I’m not a fan of DayZ itself, so the idea of another game trying to replicate its success doesn’t really appeal to me. But I realize that I’m in a minority, and thousands jumped on H1Z1 when it launched on Steam last week. And now thousands can apply for refunds as well.

H1Z1’s launch was somewhat marred by the apparently sudden addition of microtransactions that give players with deeper pockets an undeniable advantage. Players were angry, and many believed that they had been duped by the developers into buying a pay-to-win product. Although SOE doesn’t fully agree, they’ve offered a no-questions-asked refunds to anyone who wants it, although the offer ends today.

Near the beginning of development, SOE promised that H1Z1 wouldn’t offer game changing micro transaction but rather only cosmetic changes for real world money. As anyone knows, things change during development, and in August last year the idea of airdrops containing supplies and weapons cropped up. It was, however, only last week that the feature was officially revealed, sending fans into a frenzy.

Unlike traditional microtransactions though, H1Z1 comes with its own brand of risk behind airdrops. Once a player calls one in, an airplane enters the map and alerts all other players to the arrival of an airdrop. This allows anyone to essentially pick up the spoils, making the purchase more of a risk and less of a sure thing. It’s still game changing equipment, but at the very least it adds to some of the tension when other players could just wait to pick you off while stealing your paid for supplies.

H1Z1 is still in technical alpha, so a lot of things are bound to change as SOE tinkers and tweaks their survival title. Did you take the plunge early or has Steam Early Access burned you once too many already?

So I’ve watched a few people play this game and most of them actually like it, they agree the P2W is BS but the core game is actually really good. A ton of gamers..AS ALWAYS are again jumping on a bandwagon of hate without playing the actual game.

That’s life. It’s easier to complain. Especially if you’re a keyboard warrior.

The heroes of the internet. They’re by nature not a bad thing, but all too often its more about needless hate rather than actual change

I am hating on this game due to the core premise of it. In a Survival game the idea of paying for instant survival is downright stupid. Also the blatant lies did not help. Ill try the game when it is free but for now I will give it a skip.

That’s fine if you’re actually interested in the game. So many people that don’t even know ANYTHING about it are blowing a fuse

I agree to an extent… Whats the point of playing a survival game when your wallet does the surviving for you? Especially when your wallet gets your pretty good kit right after spawn.
I’m still in DayZs corner at this point. Unless H1Z1 hits PS4 first (which it probably will) in which case I will play this shiz religiously until Bohemia get DayZ into working order for ps4

Every time we play we have a massive blast. The Zombies are a threat and finding inventive Minecraft style ways to build a defensible base is always quite fun.

Just this weekend me and a friend was stuck on top of a library where we had a temporary base for scavenging with massive amount of Zeds breaking the place down and climbing walls to get to us. We died a few times but had loads of fun.

They have PVE servers and you can select the people that you want to play with. The above is a PVP issue I’d say. In the lets play video I saw people just go out to kill each other. Totally ignoring the zombies. The Alpha looks horrible at the moment.

They fixed more bugs in the 1st micro path than DayZ has done in its life time.
Will wait for it to go free when beta is released but they airdrops has also now changed to lot less game breaking stuff. Game looks much better than DayZ and with the stability of the Sony Planetside 2 servers I think it will be better game all together.
