Nintendo never forgot about the Core gamer.

For a company sitting pretty at the top of the gaming market, Nintendo has had a lot to say lately about its standing with core gamers. Now come assurances from yet another source that, no, Nintendo has definitely not “lost its passion” for core gamers.

In an interview with Market for Computer and Video Games, Nintendo UK general manager David Yarnton said that they have “never lost their passion for core gamers.”

“We have never neglected core gamers. We still have developers working on popular core gaming franchises but we need longer to complete these games, approximately two to three years.”

If this sounds familiar, it’s because Nintendo has been saying the same thing for a few months now. Luckily, they’ve also backed up those words with the announcement of new titles like Punch-Out!! and Sin and Punishment 2.

Yarnton went on to mention recently released titles like Wario Land: Shake It as well as the “vast array of third party core gaming titles available for the Wii console.” And for good measure, he added, “Nintendo has never lost its passion for core gamers. Nintendo would like to bring smiles to as many different faces as possible and produce games which appeal to mainstream and gaming audiences worldwide.”

So as Nintendo has said before – yes, the games are coming. In fact, Miyamoto is racking his brain for “newer and fresher” ideas for Mario and Zelda as we speak. Let’s just hope that these new and fresh ideas are compatible with the Wii HD.
