Sony PS3 in dramatic sales turn around

Here is some great news for Sony fans.  Tech.co.uk is reporting this morning that the PS3 sales in the UK have had a dramatic turn around.

In August and September the PS3 was consistently outsold by the Wii and 360, however now that a new 299 Pound price tag has been slapped on the system it is finally starting to really shift units.

At the end of October the PS3 actually outsold the 360 in the UK by 10% and clobbered it with 50% higher sales in the rest of Europe… We know that Sony has consistently outsold the 360 in Japan and now unless Microsoft do something the same will happen in Europe.

Which would leave the 360 only with America, not such a bad beast to have in your pocket but it will still worry Microsoft if it starts losing out in Europe.

Has the PS3’s time arrive or is this just a spike which will be slapped down by yet another Xbox 360 price cut?

Hey, Lazy, remember my mantra 🙂 ?

Japan and Europe is Sony country 😀 . See, maybe I wasn’t so nuts after all, huh? The 360 is coming stone last in this generation…not by much, but last none-the-less.

Kudo’s t osony for finally making a right move.

But (there’s always got to be one 😉 ) Are we sure it’s not just a fire sale? Remember this is Europes first price cut, and the 60Gb’s have already been marked for extinction, so how can you be sure that it’s not just panic buying to get the last of the “Full function” PS3’s, as the sales figures fro mthe US seem to indicate. 😉

Where are all the PS3 fans when I post a pro-PS3 story? They all seem to make a lot of noise if I bash the console 😉

I am reserving judgement on whether Europe iS PS3 country or not until after the silly season…. I think the 360 will keep pace with it, which will give the 360 the edge over the PS3 because of the size of the US compared to Japan. Each others stronghold…

The Wii will start slowing down next year I think

I wonder what would happen if they dropped the 360’s price to the same level as the Wii in Europe? Would that shift consoles like has happened with this desperate move by Sony? They are basically paying the consumer to take them off their hands – I guess a lot of people want a Blu Ray player and this is a cheap way to get one.

Yeah, no doubt they’re paying customers to take the units off of their hands but they’re looking at those key titles to even the fat – you know, royalties and all. Sony really needs Metal Gear to drop soon…they really need something to change their good fortune.

@ Doobi, your faith (or lack thereof boggles me 🙂 ). Did you love the original Xbox more than the PS2? Were you rooting for it back then? I’m honestly just curious…

Would you believe me if I told you I rooted for the PS2? Well actually I rooted for the Gamecube first, PS2 second and was pretty anti Xbox (and anti MS in general). Times have changed, the devices have changed, the games have changed and so has my opinion. Such is life…

Next time we meet on Live we can chat about it. Like they say, don’t believe everything you read on the Internet.

I realy don’t see the PS3 keeping these numbers up. This is just after a price cut, it is bound to come down. Have the PS3 outsold the Xbox360 world-wide since the price cut? If not, what does the PS3 need to do to beat the Xbox360, give them away for free?

Selling consoles is nice… but were are the games for it guys? Thus far it looks like a BR player selling and not a games console!

This aint about beating the X360, its solely to regain a foothold in the console market after taking a tumble due to their PR stupidity and a year late’s entry.

Sony are still making a loss per console sold unlike MS so they really NEED games’ sales to pick up.

It’s nice to see the battle for second place heat up but I wonder if this PS3 pricedrop might cause sales growth or if it’s just a spike. One thing I have to hand to Sony is that they timed it right(just before Xmas) but I wonder if Xmas gift buyers will go for the $399 or the more popular, hyped and cheaper Wii? I’m sure you all know the answer to that one.

Well considering that this is not the first article of this nature to be published on this site, I am going to go ahead and so this is moving beyond just a sales apike.
In terms of the games issue, I really dont think this is an issue anymore. I dont have the time or the money to get all the titles which I want and are currently available for the ps3. It might have been an issue in the past and it may still have less games than the xbox, but the games are definately there.

ps didnt the ps3 already outsell the xbox this year? (World wide, total sales)?
