Sony should cut the price of the Vita if they want to survive

After Nintendo slashed the price of it’s Nintendo 3DS analysts have turned their thoughts to Sony and the (now) incredibly expensive PS Vita that Sony will be releasing in Japan this year and into the rest of the world in 2012.

When the Vita was first announced it’s price target of $250 to $300 was competitively priced compared to the 3DS of $250 but now the 3DS is being flogged for $170 which is a far more enticing price point.

Never mind the huge gorillas in the room that are Apple and Android who are very quickly dominating the handheld gaming market.

Well now the analysts have started to speak up by saying

Gamers are increasingly anticipating Sony to lower prices, especially after the 3DS cut,” said Hideki Yasuda, a Tokyo-based analyst at Ace Securities Co. “Sony is under major pressure to cut the price of the Vita or risk a major failure

I have to agree with Mr Yasuda as we as gamers are currently very spoilt for choice and unless Sony comes out with some incredible titles I can’t see myself wanting to add yet another handheld to my arsenal.

However not everyone agrees as another analyst, Shiro Mikoshiba, had the following to say

The customers Sony is targeting with its Vita are those willing to spend a lot of money, That’s a valid strategy even if the volume’s low as long as it can sustain the higher price.

Unsurprisingly Sony is agreeing with Mr Mikoshiba and feels that they have a quality product at an attractive price.

So how do you feel, are you going to be queuing for a PS Vita and if so do you have a 3DS or iPhone?
