It was only a matter of time and we all knew it. The first lawsuit has been filed against Sony for this entire Playstation Network date breach mess.

The suit stems from a very upset man in Alabama, who in short, pretty much reckons that Sony done gone made a right ol’ mess of his there Playstation dee-tales and in-fer-may-shun.

I might be joking, but the people who filed the lawsuit really aren’t. More info after the jump.

The entire suit (document embedded below) filed by 36 year-old Kristopher Johns gives us the complete low down on the matter, but the major parts are as we all have predicted, and go a little something like this:

“Subsequent to the compromise of private consumer information and financial data, Defendant unduly delayed or failed to inform in a timely fashion the appropriate entities andconsumers whose data was compromised of their vulnerabilities and exposure to credit card (or other) fraud such that consumers could make an informed decision as to whether to change credit card numbers, close the exposed accounts, check their credit reports, or take other mitigating actions.

Defendant has failed to provide regular credit reports and credit monitoring at their own expense to those whose private data was exposed and left vulnerable. This has caused, and continues to cause, millions of consumers fear, apprehension, and damages including extra time, effort, and costs for credit monitoring, and extra time, effort, and costs associated with replacing cards and account numbers, and burden, and is harming both consumers’ and merchants’ ability to protect themselves from such fraud. This lawsuit seeks to remedy this reprehensible situation”

So yeah, that pretty much covers all of the major issues that have arisen in the past day or so, which mostly involve Sony failing to notify their Playstation Network members that their information (the scariest parts involving credit card details) was vulnerable. The suit is, as CNET reports it, “asking for monetary compensation and free credit card monitoring, and is seeking class action status”.

Sony have since switched the PSN off entirely and brought in an external firm to examine the matter more closely and hopefully get everything up and running as soon as possible, and in a much more secure manner.

More information will surely become available in the near future. How are you all reacting to this debacle? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
