Sony to Europe – Suck it up

Sony seem to be on a mission to completely destroy the one market where the PS3 is really doing well.

For some reason Europe (and us as we fall under them) has decided to forgive Sony for the 6 month delay enforced upon them, they then  went further and forgave them for not giving them the Emotion Chip like the US and Japan got.

Then being the kind hearted folks they are they decided to forgive Sony for the huge markup the PAL versions of the PS3 have.

Ever after all of that Europe has still been lapping up the PS3’s so you would think that after seeing this Sony would have started to think that maybe it should take more care in Europe.

Hell no, now David Reeves who is the Sony Entertainment President for Europe has come out and said that Europe is not getting the 80Gb harddrive. That would be fine enough but he obviously doesn’t know when to stop.

He goes on to say that Korea received the hard drive because of “very high broadband penetration and the people there are used to downloading content, so they require a certain size hard drive”. So Europeans don’t know how to download and have a bad broadband penetration then?

What about the 250,000 units you sold in the UK which has a fantastic broadband penetration level then David?

He then goes on to say that he doesn’t feel Sony is competing with Xbox Live since Sony is in a “different stadium” and that it doesn’t have “eyes on the competition in any way”.

You know what, I can actually believe that since they are obviously running blind by the look of things. Twit.

What are you moaning about, he gives valid reasons, u can upgrade the f00king harddrive to 300gb if u wanted to, for a good price,. All he is saying is UK broadband speeds are slow as shit compeared to the rest of europe, therefore he is correct, nothing about his statments should annoy anyone.

Crap Phil, if I can download fine on my measly 384kb line people in the UK can survive on a 24Mb line. Personally I don’t take kindly to being put down as a second class consumer. The fact that Sony looks down on Europe should annoy people

I think it’s a great misconception that Sony look down at Europe dont you? The hype machine went out of control the last two years, Sonys come out scared, and has a lot to catch up with, my opionion as a customer, im more than happy. (And we have LOADS to look forward to) and warhawk beta is amazing, i can’t get of it!

They did a survey on it. It was not a random decision!

Yeah, it doesn’t bother me that they wont be releasing the 80 GB in Europe, you can upgrade to 250GB+ for cheap anyway. What’s 20 GB…

I also dont care that they didn’t give Europe the emotion engine, the software emulation works fine (all the PS2 games I have work 100%)

    This story is a non-event.

Sony actually does surveys before a launch? Thats news to me. BTW, paying more for a PS3 WITHOUT the emotion engine in hardware is a ripoff. 100% of my PS2 games dont work via software FYI.

Funny nobody mentions the price difference between the EU, UK vs US of the PS3. I wont even mention SA. WYSIWYG vision with people here or just PS3 fans?

As a South African consumer i am pretty pissed off with Sony, it’s damn expensive here and we have to use the Europe network which gets everything last and some things not at all.

As for the UK having bad broadband, my buddy has a 8mb connection at his house for which he pays 20 quid a month. If that’s crap compared to Korea then they must have some serious stuff over there. He downloads 30-40 gigs of data each month. Although i don’t think the 80gb version is enough of a difference to care about it.
