Sony : We’ll Beat the 360 in 10 Years

Sony don’t seem too confident that they’ll be able to best 360 sales any time soon – but they’re still demonstrating testicular fortitude and bravado, as they’ve claimed that the PS3 will surpass the 360’s sales…within 10 years.

“I don’t think [360 will] be around in 10 years so I’m very confident we’ll pass them within that time frame,” Said SCEA’s Peter Dille in an interview with IGN. Excellent bit of deductive reasoning there, Sony guy.

“I mean, we’ve got 31 million [units sold] worldwide right now — they’ve got 39 million [units sold]. I don’t even need to go out 10 years.”

“I’m not going to make any predictions for your interview today other than we’ll pass them, but you look at where we are today and where they are today, and they had an opportunity to sprint as far ahead of us as possible when they had the head start,” he said.

“Well, we’re breathing down their necks and they can see us in the rearview mirror and it’s not going to take too long to pass them.”

Here’s a bit of deductive reasoning for you. In 10 years, nobody is really going to care. both manufacturers will presumably have next-gen systems out. I have no doubt that the PS3 will indeed have longer legs and, like the PS2, will continue to make money for the company and its software partners long after the next generation of consoles is released.

To be honest though, unless you’re an exec at either company you shouldn’t care which system is in the lead right now -  your focus should be on the many, many excellent games that are available.

See the problem is if the Xbox 720 came out this year. Would we then say that Microsoft beat the PS3? Since they in the ‘next’ next generation while Sony is still in this one?

I just can’t grasp why fanboi’s care who sells more… I mean honestly they don’t have shares in Sony/Microsoft so who really gives a crap!

I am here for the games, not the overall console hardware sales. Give me an Xbox, PS3 and a Wii and I’ll be a happy happy squirrel. :silly:

That’s definitely true Uncle, unless you’re a shareholder in either of these companies (or even in mine), being a rabid fanboy would be.. not only sad, but rather pathetic.

There’s nothing wrong with having your favourite brands, but if you’re defending them religiously, then maybe it’s time to sit back, pop in some Jewel or Dido and have a nice long bubble bath.

The first 2 to 3 years of a product life cycle indicate the viability of the console. And in the case of the Xbox 360 it have shown to be sustainable, not like the xbox1 which was doomed, Microsoft have shown that they are in this for the long run and can make profit with a product in the home area. Before the launch of the xbox and xbox 360 they were afraid of Nintendo and Sony
dominating in the Home entertainment area, and now
they have a firm foothold in this space as well.
