Sorry, PC gamers – The Red Dead Redemption map mod for GTA V has been cancelled

Red Dead Redemption is one of the great games of the last generation. Its biggest problem though, was its lack of a PC release. For years, there have been calls for Take Two and Rockstar to release the beloved game on PC, to no avail. There was a very small light at the end of the tunnel though.

You may have heard about a project to, at the very least, bring Red Dead Redemptions map to Grand Theft Auto V as a mod. While the project would not have brought any characters or story missions through, PC gamers would at least be able to roam New Austin, Nuevo Paraiso and the great plains of a fictionalised Arizona.

Unfortunately, the mod’s been canned. Yes, it’s because Take Two and their lawyers stepped in. Lead modder on the project Mr. Leisurewear said that the modding team at .White had “been contacted.”

“I know this is hard pill to swallow, but as you may have noticed we did get contacted,” Mr. Leisurewear said on GTAForums.com. “And we sadly have to say we are stopping this project. So thanks guys, we were all so happy to see this, but it isn’t going to happen, sorry.”

It’ll never be released.

“Also, to anyone asking for the .White toolkit, sadly I’m ordered to not release anything,” he said. “And I will probably get a lawsuit if I do officially (which I dont have right now).”

He also wanted to clear up a bit of confusion for those who thought that the mod would evolve into a port of the entire game.

“It was just gonna be the map,” he said “Undertaking this sort of a project with additional content ported over was never feasible… we were only gonna get a way to convert the map with both legal copies of each game, and some custom scripted additional content… there was never any intention or mention to either port a story mode over from RDR to V.”

Sorry, PC gamers – but no Red Dead Redemption for you. In better news, while the game’s sequel has thus far only been confirmed for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, chances of it making its way to PC are high – especially given how well GTA V has performed on that platform.
