El33tonline have always seemed to have a fantastic relationship with The Core Group in South Africa and have once again attended a press conference that we were not lucky enough to be invited to.
And this one had some really interesting information jammed into it, the official South African sales figures.
el33tonline has done a great job of analysing these stats and I highly recommend clicking through to see what they had to say but for the people who only care about the figures I have nutshelled them here for you.
Total Sales
- 360 – 72 000
- Wii – 58 000
- PS3 – 45 500
Q3 sales percentages
- Wii – 36%
- PS2 – 29%
- 360 – 22%
- PS3 – 14%
The Nintendo DS also took 51% of the market this year to the PSP’s 49%

I wonder how many of the 58000 Wii’s are lying at the bottom of a cupboard after people realised that one can have only so much fun playing ten pin bowling.

Can’t believe people would buy it in the first place 😯

I absolutely love the Wii…
I still rate Super Mario Galaxy as one of the best games ever and the party games on the Wii are great fun during lazy rainy days in Dullstroom…
Watching 4 grown men waving their hands around in a log cabin is a sight that is now permanently scarred in my brain.

What is the attachment rate of the Wii if one does not take the bundled game into account. Most people who buy a Wii don’t realise that if they want to play other games they must pay R500 – R600 a shot.

Nah i see wii as over hyped short lived console. you buy it, u play it and u sell it. Im suprized that so little 360 are sold aswel no wonder they think giving us Live is a joke. one would of thought that we sold more than 100 000 360 atleast

Soem famous dude recently called the Wii “the worlds most expensive board game,” and I think he really nailed it on the head. It’s not a gamers console it’s exactly as Lazy said, something stuffed in the cupboard you look to on a rainy day.

Wii has a terrible 3rd part game attach rate.

There’s nothing wrong with the wii except its price. It’s supposed to be the cheapest console so for the price tag of R1500, i’d buy one. But in sa that’s not the case.

I wonder how many of those 360’s are replacements? I would say about 30%.
LazySAGamer

I actually don’t know for sure and obviously no one is sharing. BUT I don’t think replacements are being counted as I am sure The Core Group or Sony would have jumped on that by now

Replacements have to be counted because they used to replace broken 360’s with normal stock that would have been sold.

Yes but before you can get it replaced this needs to be logged with Microsoft and MiDigital and the new Xbox isn’t rung up as a sale.
Like I said I don’t honestly know but my gut is saying no…
my gut also said that Alone in the Dark would be awesome 😳

I have to admit: SMG, I just don’t get it. Not that it is a bad game, it just wasn’t exceptional as everybody makes it out to be. I personnaly still prefer Ratchet & Clank. MUCH more fun than SMG.

I bought a Wii, bought all the AAA titles for it, the WiiFit, the works… and it hasn’t been turned on for 4 months now… It’s no substitute for a 360 or PS3 I am afraid, and the price for the console, the games and the controllers are ridiculous.
For the price of the Wii when I got it, with an extra Wimote, Nunchuck, Component Cable and Zelda… I could have bought the 60GB PS3 special with 2 controllers and 2 games for R500 more, but I already had a PS3 and an XBOX, so I bit the bullet and I regret it in hindsight.
