Splinter Cell conviction re-confirmed as a 360 exclusive

The next outing of the Splinter Cell franchise – yes, the oft delayed one with the drunken emo Sam Fisher – is still in development. The game, originally scheduled for release in 2007, has been beset by numerous delays and development problems. Those hoping the additional cooking time may have been to extend the game on to other platforms will be somewhat disappointed – Ubisoft have confirmed that it is still a 360 (and Windows) exclusive.

Splinter Cell Conviction will be an interesting departure for the series; Its protagonist will no longer be hiding in the dark – Sam, now a civilian,  will be forced to blend in with crowds and fend for himself without Echelon. A modified version of the Assassin’s Creed engine will power the Ubisoft Montreal developed title.

While it looks good so far, and is bound to be better than the disappointing Shanghai developed Double Agent, my enthusiasm wanes with every new announcement.

What about the rest of you? Do any of you still care?

I do. I hope it’s not going to be crap. Sam Fisher is a legend. 🙂

I just hope it’s not monotonous like AC and PoP. Both of those games had the potential to be AWESOME but fell short because it was ultimately the same thing over and over. A shame really, because PoP was a truly beautiful experience. Still worth a play for sure, but it just could have been so much more.

    I still do actually.
Chaos Theory is still one of my favourite
stealth based games. Not too sure about the new direction,
but we’ll have to wait and see.

this might scare away the fanbase, a bold move… but at what cost?

Yeah, I agree…but I think part of what made him that legend was the voice of Michael Ironside. Without that particularly gravelly voice, I think the character becomes lifeless.

i think that a modern assasins creed would be cooler, the whole fun with chaos theory for me was taking out everyone on a boat without anyone realizing, difficult thing to do in a free roaming game, i think it will get frustrating quickly
