Square Enix might make more Final Fantasy XV Ultimate Editions, thanks to eBay scalpers

Dances-with-dandruff

Final Fantasy fans are a superstitious and deep-pocketed bunch, something evidenced by the fact that an Ultimate Collector’s Edition for the upcoming game sold out within actual minutes on the Square Enix website. If you missed out on a chance to grab one of those super-duper editions of the game, then hard luck: You won’t be able to get your mitts on one outside of an exorbitantly expensive one that’ll be sold on eBay. Maybe.

Hey, speaking of completely unethical capitalist bastard scalpers, that’s where the next part of this story comes in. I mean, just look at the prices that they’re demanding for a boxed version of the game that includes an action figure as the primary incentive:

FF-Ebay

Ridiculous. Prices range all the way up from around the $350 mark to the ludicrous $900 barrier, because scalpers operate on the same kind of twisted logic that allows YouTube to approve Afrikaans music for public consumption. Naturally some fans are feeling a bit testy about this, something that Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata addressed on Twitter, translated via Siliconera:

Hello, Tabata here. I’m truly grateful for those of you who checked out Uncovered: Final Fantasy 15.

Things were as exciting as can be at the event, but I heard that those of you in Japan also got excited along with the long TV commercial. Again, the Platinum Demo has received a large number of downloads, and we truly thank you for that!

And by the pre-orders for the Ultimate Collector’s Edition vanished in a flash, and we’ve received plenty of voices from those that weren’t able to acquire it. We are terribly sorry about that. At the moment, we’re continuing with internal coordination to see if we can somehow increase its production. We will make an announcement as soon as there’s any progress!

Again, I’d like to let you know that we will follow protocol to handle what appears to be unusual orders that may seem like they were made for resale purposes. Once more, thank you for your continued support of Final Fantasy 15.

Look, there’s nothing technically wrong with what the scalpers are doing, which according to bureaucrats is the best kind of loophole. It is massively scummy however, for a boxed version of a game that will most likely have a massive load of merchandise in the years to come. So plonk a few dollars down on that instead, if you’re that massively hungry for it. Final Fantasy XV is out September 30 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Google glass cost around R10 000 plus shipping if you could get around the shipping issues and was lucky enough to get one of the limited stock that was available. Then one day 5 of those popped up on takealot for R27 000. They even had the nerve to say they took a loss with the product but could not produce evidence to solidify that statement after someone did the math and confronted them on it. We have some of the worst scalpers in South Africa and it ain’t even the little guy on the street.

Thank you Darryn, I now have to type upside down to allow the coffee that I spewed out over my keyboard to drip out slowly over my face, don’t worry though, it’s worth it!

Now the question remains: what versions will be available in SA? normal and SE most likely?
