Star Wars 1313 might still be alive

Cast your minds back to 2012. A time where LucusArts were still in the business of making games, and Disney were not yet owners of one of the biggest entertainment franchises ever created. Back at E3 2012 a rather intriguing Star Wars game was revealed, which then cemented itself in the memories of Star Wars fans later that year at Gamescom. That game was Star Wars 1313, and it died a very public death a few months afterwards.

Just two months after Gamescom, Disney became owner of Star Wars and immediately scaled back LucusArts. The studio was then shuttered for good the following year, taking any hope of Star Wars 1313 with it. That flame was seemingly extinguished for good at the end of 2013 though, when the trademark for the title was left to rot in limbo by Disney – who had by then revealed that the game might have let players step into the boots of infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett.

It’s been nearly two years since then, which makes an interview with current Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy so interesting. Not only did Kennedy refer to Star Wars 1313 by name, but she might have given fans a lot of hope concerning its future. Speaking to Slashfilm, Kennedy explained how there’s an archive of Star Wars work that she and many others at Lucasfilm don’t want to go to waste.

No. No, interestingly enough, that’s an area we’ve spent a lot of time, reading through the material that he developed is something we very much would like to explore. And there was 1313 the game, where there was….

Caught off guard at the mention of 1313 at all, interviewer Peter Sciretta interjected here to proclaim his love for the game’s concept art, to which Kennedy replied.

Unbelievable. So our attitude is, we don’t want to throw any of that stuff away. It’s gold. And it’s something we’re spending a lot of time looking at, pouring through, discussing, and we may very well develop those things further. We definitely want to.

Now that doesn’t mean Star Wars 1313 is back on the production line. In fact far from it. It’s exciting to think that a game that has been dormant for nearly two years is suddenly on the mind of Lucasfilm’s head honcho, But that could mean Disney has other plans for some of the work done on the title. The same goes for material used to try and create a live-action Star Wars TV Series that was set to debut in 2009 – another project which Kennedy referenced in the interview.

EA still has some Star Wars titles cooking, the most exciting of which features Uncharted Writer Amy Hennig and Ubisoft veteran Jade Raymond. Hennig has already expressed how some influences for their unannounced game come from Star Wars 1313, and I still think that’s the closest we’re going to get to the title in game form. But who knows – there’s a reason Disney hasn’t yet forgotten its name.

  1. As much as I wanted this game, I don’t trust EA enough to expect them to make it what it was intended to be.

Not sure I agree, Disney purchased Star Wars for a reason: to make money. There is plenty of room there to make money from the 5 year olds and the 35 year olds plus. Put another way, why do a lot of clubs demand that persons be 23 years and older to enter?

Because under 23 year-old’s are more likely to throw up on the couches?
I don’t know. Comparing The Clone Wars series to that new one already gives me the idea that they’re going a bit soft on Star Wars. But…that said….I don’t want to judge it just yet, I have no doubt that it will be better than ep1. Disney isn’t exactly new to Sci-fi, so I think they’ll do a proper job either way.

No, proven fact: Over 23years spend more money on drink. that simple. And throw up less on the couch.

Put it this way, plenty of people, earning some good money, without kids (some with kids, but is easier to justify without, for me at least) that can and will buy into the Star Wars ethos, if done right, for themselves

Rebels isn’t bad. Clone Wars wasn’t the greatest when it started out either, and half its plot lines were boring as hell to be honest. Plus Rebels got the best SW character in existence to make an appearance again.

Yea, I’m not feeling Rebels. Too many lame little additions that make no sense.

You have no idea how happy I am that I ordered her Disney Infinity figurine, sold separately via import only, on Monday. Before the glorious leader opened his fat mouth again and replaced our finance minister with a glorified rubber stamp.

Yea, I’ve actually eyed that figurine myself tbh. Pretty damn nice.
And yea, I think our import order spending is going to go down quite a bit now. Mine stopped after the Post Office “lost” and “never delivered” two things I bought worth over R1k.

            December 10, 2015 at 09:42

Ouch. Fear of that happening is why I avoid importing anything directly like the plague. I’d rather pay extra and let someone else sit with the risk.

The problem is when you purchase something to make money it tends to be the main focus. Like with battlefront. Season pass up the ass you want more you’re gonna have to pay more.

Disney might still have a chance. But EA is off my list entirely these days.
They keep saying that they listen, then they don’t really. They say they’re changing, but they haven’t.
Even Dragon Age Inquisition for R150 wasn’t going to convince me to buy a game from them.
