Star Wars Battlefront is getting Rogue One DLC and a VR Mission on December 6

I don’t know why, but it feels like there is barely any hype for the upcoming standalone Star Wars film, Rogue one, at least, when compared to the sort of excitement we saw last year with The Force Awakens. Perhaps the new DLC for Star Wars Battlefront, Rogue One: Scarif, will remedy that somewhat (via Destructoid).

We’re happy to finally announce new details on Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Rogue One: Scarif, which arrives for all Season Pass owners on December 6. The fourth and final digital expansion pack gives you access to new content inspired by the upcoming film Rogue One™: A Star Wars™ Story, arriving in theaters on December 16.

In Rogue One: Scarif you’ll battle across four new maps, including the sandy beaches of Scarif – an all-new tropical planet crawling with Imperials – which should look mighty familiar to anyone who saw the movie trailer. Know that incredible scene in the trailer where the AT-ACT is marching through the waves? That’s the one!

Joining the battle are two new playable heroes: Jyn Erso and Orson Krennic, as well as a new multi-stage game mode with space and ground combat.

If running around on those gorgeous stretches of tropical sand doesn’t get you excited, then I don’t know what will! Actually, how about a free bit of VR DLC? It’s all yours on the same date, if you have a copy of Battlefront and PSVR that is (hey Geoff I’m coming to visit):

Also arriving on December 6 is the Star Wars™ Battlefront™ Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission for PlayStation VR. This free DLC gives you control of your very own X-wing in fully immersive virtual reality – brush up on your piloting skills, stay on target, and prepare to jump through hyperspace as you carry out an important mission for the Rebellion.

If none of this appeals to you, well, EA have one more trick up their sleeve. To celebrate the first birthday of Battlefront, they’re making all the previous DLC free for a limited time, and they’re slapping a multiplier onto XP earned too:

To kick off the anniversary celebrations, we have new in-game activities starting November 17. If you’re looking to check out Outer Rim, Bespin, or Death Star, you can play the maps and modes from all three expansions for free until November 20 – and all players will earn quadruple score all weekend long.

I’ve not yet played Battlefront, but I do intend to, one day. All I need is for money to magically manifest in my account so I can throw it at the ultimate edition. That there includes the base game, and every scrap of DLC.

In the meantime, I’m counting down the days until the release of Rogue One. My body is ready!

Rather play Overwatch. And this is coming from a Star Wars fan. EA screwed the pooch with this game.
