Starcraft II: Legacy of the Void gets its first Major

It’s time to revive that Starcraft II passion as Legacy of the Void has received its first Major at Dreamhack Winter. That’s right, SC2 is not dead, yet. Dreamhack will host a $50,000 tournament on November 26th, just shy of Legacy of the Void’s release on November 10th.

Legacy of The Void

If you follow the Starcraft II lore, you’d know we’re approaching the story of the Protoss. If there’s one thing Blizzard does right, it’s lore and cinematics.

Lore aside, competitively Legacy of the Void brings some much needed changes to the Starcraft II multiplayer experience. Each expansion introduces new units and buildings, but LotV has gone above and beyond. Players will now start with more money and more units. This changes the pace of the game completely, allowing faster builds, and faster offensive play. Essentially Blizzard are trying to make the game more exciting.

One of the biggest features is the change to the laddering system. A major part of the SC2 experience is grinding through the ladders to reach the highest rank – Grand Master. Blizzard have now added a tournament structure to the laddering system.

Dreamhack Winter

At the moment Legacy of the Void is still in Beta, but Dreamhack Winter will be our first showcase of the new expansion in a competitive environment. It’s not uncommon for a new SC2 expansion to feature shortly after release, and personally I feel it’s a good thing as it pumps up the beta testing phase to ensure a great game is released upon launch. 24 Players will take the stage at Dreamhack after going through regional qualifiers.

Red Bull Battlegrounds already touched on Legacy of The Void over the weekend, but Dreamhack Winter will be the first official tournament to play host to the finale of the Starcraft II series.

So, with these new changes in place, is that not then more like a fast paced MOBA? Or do I understand it wrong?

nope. Usually you need about 5-10 mins of solid base work to get a proper army going due to the slow ramp up in starting resources. That first 2 minutes of pretty much just making harvesters and a small amount of first tier ground units is the most boring part of the game.

Yeah, I know, but they now want more money and units at start. That will have a big impact, cause strategy changes.

      I’m also seeing that.
Starcraft isn’t much of a traditional RTS anymore. Traditional RTS games are a dime a dozen these days. And sadly so.
