Stunning Xbox One X Assassin’s Creed Origins gameplay straight from E3

Assassin’s Creed is back this year, with a game that marks quite a star change of direction for the series. While the core tenets of Assassin’s Creed are all in place, there have been great, sweeping changes to how the game plays. It’s no longer a game about hunting checkpoints for starters, and is far more focused on rewarding real exploration.

Says producer Julien Laferriere:

“We wanted for players to look for visual cues in the world, to be able Egypt in the way we crafted it. That’s also the reason why we brought Senu, your pet eagle. She will give you a brand new perspective, a top-view perspective, on that world. We really wanted to give you a different approach. But an approach that would allow more immersion for the player. That’s why we made a really minimal UI so that players can really absorb that world we’ve crafted.”

And that’s more than evident in the gameplay. Here’s 20 minutes of the game, captured on Xbox One X.

One of the bigger changes comes in its combat too, which has also received a spectacular overhaul.

With Bayek thrust into the underbelly of competitive fighting, get a good look at Assassin’s Creed Origins’ new combat system in motion with a good look at new enemy types too.

In case you missed it, here’s what we said of the game in our preview from E3:

“Ubisoft is clearly serious about reigniting the franchise in a smart way, giving returning fans and newcomers alike a springboard into the complex and fascinating lore the games have always added to. The ancient Egyptian setting too fits as the perfect piece of land to get really lost within, while the game itself does a good job of giving you the ease and tools needed to make that journey far more exciting than the eventual destination. “

I’ll admit, if I was a PC gamer obsessed with eye-watering resolution, high frame rates and how shiney the shinies are, I’d probably be nutting on my keyboard right about now, but at the end of the day, as has been shown repeatedly…. gameplay trumps graphics!

I certainly hope that the boney X has more than just pretty shinies….

Are you saying the gameplay in Assasins Creed Origins is bad? If not then logic should proof to you already that XBOX has got more than just pretty “shinies”, not? What about the other 50 plus games already confirmed to be true 4K on XBOX, they all have bad gameplay too? XBOX just proofs that unlike PS4 Pro you can have the best of both, graphics and gameplay, not just either/or.

        “true 4K”

        Ummmm…no

They keep using the word “native” and they clearly have no idea what power is needed to get “true” 4K gameplay. Unless this XboneX will cost R30k.

        It’s just upscaled 1080p

AC Origins runs at a native (no checkerboard) 4K on the Xbox One. We confirmed such with Ubi at E3.

Alright. But I am still going to wait until people confirm this after launch, since Ubi is the boy who cried wolf way to many times in the past.

It’s not just Ubi, but then again maybe all the developers are in on this 4K ruse……?

Pretty sure digital foundry did tests with Forza as well and said it runs native 4k smooth as butter.

Apparently now the AC engine runs at 900p and all “4K” are upscaled? That’s complete bullshit if true! How can MS & Ubi think this is OK & that they can get away with it? Have they not heard of DF yet? ?

So there is zero proof that it’s actually doing “true” 4K xD

Everyone is just going by word of mouth?

This really looks amazing, taking that year between releasing I think did Ubisoft good from all the gameplay I’ve seen so far I am sold. But also I’ve played every AC game and enjoyed all of them besides Unity as long as they don’t mess it up that bad haha!
