Surprise! Fox News freaks out at DNF's Capture the Babe MP mode

Last week it was revealed that one of the multiplayer modes in upcoming Duke Nukem Forever is called Capture the Babe. Instead of the normal CTF style of multiplayer, players will be vying for the possession of the opposing team’s Babe; pretty apt for a Duke game if you ask me.

When Gavin posted the news on the multiplayer mode last week, there was speculation as to whether or not Fox News would respond to the game’s overtly sexist inclusion. They have, and they are warning people to “brace [themselves] for the awfully sexist world of Duke Nukem Forever” as if it’s some sort of level twelve hurricane or impending apocalypse that everyone in America will be subjected to.

According to Fox News, Duke Nukem Forever will “take sexism to a new level” and to back up their claims they ask for input from people who will obviously echo their own sentiments. Jamia Wilson, vice president of the Women’s Media Centre, said “It was offensive then and it’s even more offensive now. These depictions of women are extremely harmful, especially to young women.”

At least this time Fox News has included some opinion from the gaming industry. They quote parts of the OXM article in which the multiplayer mode was revealed, quoting it’s “more goofy than offensive”. That, however, is decidedly not Fox News’ stance on the matter; the news outlet suggests that Gearbox might have “crossed the line this time”.

Are we surprised by this and will Fox News sway your decision to purchase the game? Didn’t think so.
