Black Friday

It’s not just supermarkets and convenient stores that will feature some form of people trampling over one another to get a Black Friday deal this week. Digital will also be offering some flash sales, with plenty of games lined up for cheap on the digital download side. Here’s what you can snag on the Xbox side.

Provided that you have a US account on your console, the following games will be getting discounted for y’all until December 2:

  • The Bureau: XCOM Declassified – $19.79
  • Tomb Raider – $14.99
  • The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim – $14.99 (DLC on sale too)
  • Fallout 3 – $7.49 (DLC on sale too)
  • Mark of the Ninja – $5.09
  • BIT.TRIP Presents… Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien – $7.49
  • Dust: An Elysian Tail – $5.09
  • The Cave – $3.74
  • Motocross Madness – $4.99
  • Deadpool – $29.99
  • Sleeping Dogs – $12.39
  • Metro: Last Light – $24.99
  • Sacred Citadel – $7.49
  • The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct – $24.99 (Gold exclusive)

Not bad, and Tomb Raider looks mighty tempting to me. Plus a digital backlog can’t fall over and kill me, unlike that precarious tower of physical games perched on my shelf right now. There’ll also be one day flash sales, if you want to play the waiting game. Via CVG:

The article on LG on the console version of Diablo 3 made me want that game (never played the PC version) and I am still loving it!

First game was a buggy mess, but now it is fine. OVG has played it for about 200 hours and cannot get enough of it.

Lydia was my faithful companion. I was going to ask Lydia to marry. I was going on a dangerous quest and sent Lydia back home.

She never got home. Never found her body. A bug took her.

I ended up marrying some random woman I found in the city, had a miserable life, reached the end of the game and took it out my disc tray forever. Haven’t even played the DLCs.

I played on PC, and from what I understand, it’s really the only way to go for the sole reason that you have the console to fix/undo whatever fuckups Bethesda’s code created (mainly substandard quest clean-up, and time specific quests). There were numerous quests that were broken or had to be done at certain times (with no real indication of this), in order to be able to finish them, and you’d end up having a quest halfway finished, with the NPC in a certain place…preventing you from doing other quests that NPC had. So, you’d need to do ~ to open the console (on PC) and either delete the quest from your quest log, or advance yourself to the next step. Just to continue the story line. Obnoxius, for sure, but on PC it wasn’t a deal breaker, I still enjoyed it.

On PS3, however, the experience was simply woeful from everything I’ve heard.

Don’t believe everything said on the internet.

The “recent” banning wave (that actually was a paranoia fest) supossedely had to do with people abusing a glitch and downloading free games from regions that have no Xbox Live marketplace, and that wasn’t even confirmed, because most of the people that abused this and downloaded a bunch of games from another region weren’t banned. Maybe it is banneable now after they updated the ToS, and obviously they won’t ever tell you “go ahead”, but I don’t think that the banned people was banned solely for region abusing shenanigans.

You realize what you’re saying, is on the internet also…right?

I can understand questioning rumor, but when Microsoft states:

“To be clear, the Xbox Live Policy & Enforcement team does not monitor direct peer-to-peer communications like Skype chats and calls,” a Microsoft representative tells IGN. “Also, we take Code of Conduct moderation via Upload Studio very seriously. We want a clean, safe and fun environment for all users. Excessive profanity as well as other Code of Conduct violations will be enforced upon and result in suspension of some or all privileges on Xbox Live. We remain committed to preserving and promoting a safe, secure and enjoyable experience for all of our Xbox Live members.”

It kinda stands in stark contrast to what you’re saying. Microsoft wouldn’t release a statement specifically about profanity laden content, which in and of itself is borderline insanity for something you have to consciously decide to watch.

I did say the line being aware of where I’m saying it, though……. Why point it out when there’s so many smart people around to do it for me?

And again, what the hell do you want them to say? Of all the cases of banned accounts that I’m aware of, I haven’t read a single one who was solely banned for region or VPN stuff. There’s ALWAYS something more. They always did “something” else to their consoles or their accounts to justify the banning.

          • Brian Murphy

            November 27, 2013 at 16:17

Because Microsoft has never been shy about giving the reasoning for bans, when people are doing things they feel violates the ToS. Same with Sony. Not to mention that coming out with a false reason for such bans (a la profanity) has now created more of a PR shitstorm for them, than simply saying yeah, they were accessing XBL using a glitch, outside the regions where XBL is available.

And why wouldn’t a company be honest about it? Doesn’t it sow confusion to not? Let’s take your scenario, as an example. What purpose does reinforcing the profanity policy publicly serve, when the real issue is people accessing the market place illegally?

Wouldn’t it serve the companies long term interests better to simply say, Don’t do this, you will get banned. Which keeps those people buying games, and utilizing their system and network? To not come out and say it simply seems like a way to get rid of loyal customers.

Just to be clear though, one of my biggest issues with MP gaming in general is the mouths on some of these people, but, I prefer leaving the rating/filtration to the users, not the corporation. If I want someone removed from my experience, I should have that ability via my console, I don’t think it’s wise to have some bureaucrat pencil pusher making those decisions for me. What they find unacceptable, I may be tolerant of. What I find unacceptable, they may not care about, etc…

Best to let the user customize their experience, and not try to do it for them, in my opinion.

          • Mathias

            November 27, 2013 at 16:25

Thing is, the users couldn’t care less about marketplace shenanigans, while most do care (or pretend to care) about profanity; while the companies couldn’t care less about profanity, but do care for losing money one way or the other.

But again, the bannings weren’t caused by the region stuff. Unless someone started sharing the created accounts or even selling them, it’s not actually ilegal, it’s abusing a glitch. Well, we could spend the whole day arguing whether or not it’s ilegal, but I won’t.

I agree with letting the user customize their experience, but I don’t believe users should have the ultimate power. I don’t really trust the rating system, and any popular Youtuber can have thousands of people to report a dude that made them rage quit, but I do believe a better way of control should be applied. But it won’t happen…

Oh, just to be clear, I’m not arguing, I’m simply curious why you’d think Microsoft would say one thing, when it’s something else entirely that was the problem. I just don’t see that as a great way to manage your business. But, yeah, not trying to be combative.

I think the only way is to let the user have the ultimate power, obviously not ban power, but ban from my console/PC experience, absolutely. As it is, I only allow friends to add me, everything else must be via request. We also have a closed vent server (For PC, clearly), and only hand out passwords to people who’ve proven they are compatible with us (We too, are batshit crazy in our own way hehe).

The rating system wouldn’t necessarily remove them from your experience in my vision, it would simply give you an understanding of general public opinion. That having been said, the general public is overloaded with fucking morons, so, as with most ratings, I’d take them with a grain of salt, and simply rely on my personal experience to decide whether or not to remove someone from my life.

Additionally, there should be repercussions for people abusing the ratings system as well. What happens on Youtube, Metacritic, Amazon etc… should be prevented at all costs. As I said, allowing the user the ultimate power will let Microsoft focus on the important things that only they can control, software/hardware functionality etc…
