Take Two Won’t Be Annualising Its Big Titles

Strauss Zelnick, President of Take Two has said that the publisher won’t be rushing out annual releases of its big name titles the way other publishers *coughEAandActivisioncough* do.

Breathe a sight of relief, because you won’t be seeing a new Grand theft Auto or Red Dead Redemption every year, the way you do with titles like Call of Duty, Guitar Hero and yearly sports titles.

Annualising games, he said at the Reuters Global Media Summit, “threatens their quality  and risks burning out consumers.” I can’t say I’m disappointed with that at all. What I would like though, is a sequel to Bully. It’s been 4 years already, dammit!

One reason for this is that the publisher no longer feels it relies solely on GTA to bring in money. With games like BioShock 2 and Red Dead Redemption being incredibly successful – and BioShock Infinite, L.A Noire and Duke Nukem Forever on the way, they may be right.

“We don’t have any structural impediment to being profitable in a given year.”

I wish more corporates were structured like Rockstar, that’s why I buy all Rockstar games at premium price and never at re sale. EA,Activision and all the other sharks on the other hand I only buy them second hand. That why I think FIFA supporters are thick why do you wanna buy the same game every year?
