Talk for free with 2000 of your closest friends

PlayStation Access has confirmed that you will be able to use free party chat with up to 2000 players in your friend list with the PS4. This feature will be accessible without needing a PS Plus account.

Really, 2000 friends?  According to Facebook, I currently have 515 friends, and I can tell you now I wouldn’t recognize half of them if I saw them on the street (old school friends seem to get drastically fat or thin), and I probably wouldn’t want to play games with 10% of them.  Who needs 2000 friends on PlayStation?

Other things that were confirmed in the latest PlayStation Access video include that you will need PS Plus to play online and that the PS4 will not support the old DualShock 3 controllers, but it will support the PlayStation Move.  Oh, but you can carry over your PS3 avatar to the PS4.  You can watch the video here if you want to see for yourself.

To trump MS is offering 2001 friends as per their “We’ll wait and see what Sony does” methodology.

Honestly while 2000 sounds stupid I find it stupid that there is a limit.

Who cares how many friends you have? 1 way to hit the limit would be for your local sports club to setup a PSN account that joins all the members… suddenly you hit a limit and have a problem.

    Makes no sense

        Does indeed.

That limit is not imposed by any variable size or anything. It is arbitrary.

Did your child wet the bed? I have been up since 06:30 because my daughter hates to sleep… but on the plus side she slept the whole night. That is the 5th time that has happened since she was born… 3 and a half years ago!!!

Having a day job and running a successful gaming site will do that to you I guess!! But with such a nice a community at your back I can see why you persist….. hahahaha… runs and pat myself on the back!!

            July 30, 2013 at 09:04

Nah, sleep 5 hours a night for me and all good. I pulled some semi all nighters last week and realised two things:

            1. Technical staff cannot seem to estimate time for a task.
            2. I am getting on and cannot work like that anymore. Perhaps if I still smoked?

I tend to only get more than 6 hours in winter… then I can easily sleep 13 hours HAHAHA!

Ok. That is dedication. I am at work an hour early, but you know, that is at seven.

Nice going. I find it very impressive that you hold a day job and keep this site going.

My guess would be that for most people won’t matter, but they dont want anybody messing with that… maybe they shouldn’t have given that weird number and let the people doing weird things like 2000 friends find out later

Could be good for schools, universities, and various other entities with large amounts of people and a need to communicate with them from time to time.
