Telkom DGC prize pools grow even larger

What’s big, round, and just around the corner? No, not that favourite hooker of yours. I’m talking about rAge of course! The expo kicks off this weekend at The Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate, bringing together all sorts of new tech, games, as well as the top eSports talent from around the country. The Do Gaming Championship already had some impressive prize pools. They’ve just grown larger.

Alienware will not only be sponsoring PC’s (the X51) for the duration of the weekend, but they will also be giving them away to the winners of the qualifying titles. Just one of those units is worth R17 999, so that’s quite something! Their generous sponsor gets added to the prize pool for the following titles along with sponsors such as Razor CoolerMaster, and Telkom themselves (via Telkom Gaming):

Also on board for this year’s championship is Nvidia, who have come on board to sponsor Dota 2 – the biggest game in the DGL this year. The prize pool WAS R160 000. Thanks to the new contribution from Nvidia, as well as an increase in contribution from other sponsors ASUS, SteelSeries and Telkom, that prize pool now sits at a pretty R270 000. That is simply phenomenal! Here’s the breakdown (via Telkom Gaming):

– R70,000 in cash

  1. Wow…is DotA that much bigger than everything else in SA? I’ve been in the UK for a while now, and the biggest paying events are either LoL or CoD…

      Because we have local Dota 2 servers here. And a lot of the community that plays the games played Dota 1 back in the old days before LoL even existed.
