I’m in a love/hate relationship with Telltale Games. Their take on The Walking Dead universe (both season 1 and 2) drew me in, made me invest myself emotionally, then punched me right in the heart! There’s definitely something special about the way they craft their stories and make you question your decisions days after you’ve made them. Their latest titles, Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands, only have 1 episode out each. That hasn’t stopped them from planning their next project though. Apparently there is something new in the pipeline, we just have no clue what it is yet!
Teasetale Games’ Director of PR, Job J Stauffer, has been sending out some interesting tweets (via NeoGAF).
Super secret surprise announcements before the holiday break? Maaaaaybe. …hashtag #subtle!
— Job J Stauffer (@jobjstauffer) December 17, 2014
I’ll also clarify – it’s not directly related to anything else we’ve made in 2014.

“Well, kids… You see… When two game developers love each other VERY much… and they get together…”

Alright. Signing off for a bit. Much more work to do, but est. waiting time is less than 8 hrs. See you in the morning! 😉

Well, don’t just stand there… bring forth the tinfoil hats! Some on NeoGAF have speculated that it will be a Star Wars title that bridges the story between episode VI and the brand new episode VII which will release in December 2015. The timing of it all would work perfectly, except that Stauffer has said another game developer is involved.
For this reason, I believe it will be a new narrative set in a popular gaming world like Tales from Borderlands is. Honestly though, it really could be anything. I’ve read suggestions of The Last of Us, Fallout, Bioshock, The Witcher, and many others – all of which have some awesome source material to draw a new narrative from.
We have a clue to work with at least (I think). Check out this tweet from Richard Iggo, the Senior Director of Marketing.
I see skies of blue and clouds of white. The bright blessed the day, the dark sacred night. And I think to myself what a wonderful world.
— Richard Iggo (@Sixteen60) December 18, 2014
It’s lyrics from a Louis Armstrong’s ‘What a wonderful world’, and that’s about the extent of my knowledge. What do you think the new game will be? Leave your thoughts below!
UPDATE
Forget all whatever title you envisioned being created. Telltale is making love to Minecraft and bringing a story mode to the blocky world. Here’s a blurb from their blog:
Minecraft: Story Mode will be an all-new narrative-driven game series developed by Telltale in collaboration with Mojang. Set in the world of Minecraft, the series will feature an original story, driven by player choice. It will not be an add-on for Minecraft, but rather a separate stand-alone product that will premiere in 2015 on consoles, computers and mobile devices.
Telltale’s game series will mix new characters with familiar themes, in an entirely original Minecraft experience, inspired by the Minecraft community and the game that continues to inspire a generation.
How will it work exactly? Mojang shared some bullet points over on their blog.
- Minecraft: Story mode will be a narrative-driven video game created by Telltale Games. It will be about Minecraft.
- Mojang is collaborating with Telltale and members of the community to make Minecraft: Story Mode as Minecrafty as possible.
- The first episode will be released some time in 2015, and will be available on Xbox consoles, PlayStation consoles, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android-based devices.
- Minecraft: Story Mode will be released episodically, just like The Wolf Among Us, The Walking Dead, or the recent Tales from the Borderlands, which is another developer-collaboration series between Telltale Games and Gearbox Software.
- We’re not intending on creating an “official” story for Steve, or explaining the world of Minecraft in detail. It will be a cool game.
- The Minecraft 2 thing was a joke. No really. It was a joke.
It’s a… unique idea, something I honestly never expected. What do you think? Does this game appeal to you?

Yeah this might be the one Telltale game I don’t care about. Maybe if I had played Minecraft, but I never tried it so this doesn’t work.
