Ten Mega Evolutions that we want to see in Pokémon Sun and Moon

Machampmania

Mega Evolutions were a game change in Pokémon X and Y, an idea that carried on through to the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire remakes as Primal Regression. Here was a chance for less popular Pokemon to suddenly be given a power boost of over 9000, surpassing any limits and standing on equal footing with even the mightiest of legendary Pokemon.

Out of over 700 Pokémon, there are 48 of these Mega Evolutions that players are capable of achieving. Blaziken, Garchomp, Gardevoir and Charizard are just a few of the pocket monsters who get one hell of a boost when that special stone on your wrist is tapped and their potential is unleashed. And it’s not enough. I want more dammit, lots more of the temporary power-up. Here’s ten Pokémon who definitely deserve a boost.

Dragonite

Dragonote

When you first picked up a Dratini way back in Pokémon Red and Blue, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Dragonair was the first and final evolutionary state of this original dragon. But patience and a little bit of grinding revealed that there was more hidden power lurking within in this water spirit. Dragonite was the ultimate form of this mythical creature, and almost unstoppable force of nature to be reckoned with when properly trained.

Since then, Dragonite has set a benchmark for Dragon-type Pokémon: A creature with that has two evolutionary states to achieve, which can only be made possible with hard training and properly challenging yourself to get as many experience points as possible. But Dragonite has also become a relic over the various generations.

Pokémon such as Garchomp, Salamence and Hydreigon have long since surpassed the OG dragon, leaving it to be neglected. But a mega evolution that would return Dragonite to the throne it left behind? I want to see that in action.

Machamp

Machamp

Poor Machamp. One of the big four Pokémon to try and capture (alongside Gengar, Alakazam and Golem), this muscle-bound freak of nature has also been left to gather dust lately. While Gengar and Alakazam have all received upgrades, Goro Junior here has just been another relic languishing in the past. But imagine how wonderfully ridiculous a Mega-Machamp would look, with even more arms that necessary and enough muscles to be mistaken for a Rob Liefeld drawing from the mid-90s.

Gamers already got a taste of Machamp’s true power in Pokken Tournament this year, but seeing the Hulk Hogan of Pokemon get juiced up further would have me dragging my link cable out of storage.

Umbreon

Umbreon

Confession: Umbreon is my favourite Pokemon. It’s vaguely some sort of cat, adorable and has a higher defense than the organism which guards the head of Donald Trump. Eeveelutions are always a highlight for me in any Pokemon game, and while I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing a Ghost-type Eeevee evolve with the use of an evolutionary stone that’ll leave you mentally scarred when you’re told how you need to use it, I’d love to see Umbreon be the first Eevee upgrade to get a boost.

Snorlax

Snorlax

Move aside Slaking, it’s time for an even lazier Pokemon to remind you all who’s the real king of the couch. Snorlax is a pocket monster whose sole purpose in life is to lay directly in your way and force you to go on a quest to find a pokeflute that’ll wake its gigantic ass up. Beyond that, it’s actually deadly when properly pissed off. It’s got a punch that channels the inner-city fury of Mike Tyson, a defense that is more resilient than skin of people who deny that global warming is real and he’s actually rather cuddly.

I’d like an even cuddlier Snorlax to mega-evolve, if that’s even possible.

Darkrai

Darkrai

Mewtwo and Rayquaza have been examples of Legendary critters in the series getting a completely unnecessary yet awesome power boost. But I’ve always had a soft spot for Darkrai. It’s darkness personified, but also a legendary creature which has never ever really felt that powerful when compared to the likes of Zyguarde, Cresselia or even Lugia. Time to fix that up, and make this floating terror the stuff that nightmares are made out of.

Galvantula

Galvantula

Listen, it’s an electric-type spider. It’s already cool. Now imagine how many fire-type Pokemon would be thrown at a mega version of Galvantula by arachnophobes. Answer: All of them. Double-answer: They won’t be enough to stop just one of these guys.

Infernape

Eventually, every starter Pokemon is going to get an upgrade. We’ve seen the first generation of pocket monsters debut mega-evolutions, while Ruby and Sapphire also got in on the action in their 2014 remakes. But Infernape has always been one of my favourites. While Blaziken may have been the first combination Fighting and Fire-type pocket monster, Infernape to me was the best of the lot.

Also, I’d like to yell “GO MONKEY GO” at least once while I activate a mega evolution.

Luxray

Luxray

When it comes to actual animals, lions are at the top of my list of favourites. Majestic, daring and powerful creatures, just like me when I dream and no one is around to throw verbal abuse my way. Seeing a Shinx in Pokemon Diamond was one of the happier moments for me in the history of that franchise. My favourite wild animal, in the form of a possibly kickass electric-type beast? Bring it on.

And I liked the final evolution that would be Luxray. It looked…alright. But it didn’t scream king of the jungle. It needed to look more regal, more intense and powerful. So yeah, lets mega-evolve this sucka right away.

Toxicroak

Toxicroak

Fighting-type Pokemon get a bum rap in the franchise. They’re some of the best and most balanced creatures to train, but they’ve got far too many weaknesses. Over the years, this specific type of Pokemon has become more varied, with Toxicroak being my favourite combination of both poison and fighting type abilities. There aren’t enough fighting-type Pokemon to even the playing field however, something that needs to be addressed. That’s why I’m nominating my favourite critter out of the bunch.

I think a mega snorlax would be a snorlax with more fluff and tufts of gray hair. What about a mega Tropius? That would be the boss of grass types: http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/thumb/d/dd/357Tropius.png/250px-357Tropius.png

Mega Sandslash would also be swell.
