Now that Heroes of the Storm has been launched, Blizzard can give it some proper eSport loving. This is not to say they didn’t when the game was still in its Alpha and Beta stages, but now that it’s out good and proper, they’re looking to crown the first official world champions. This weekend saw the first bit of American qualifiers take place.
Here’s the latest blurb from the Heroes of the Storm website in case you’ve forgotten what the World Championship is all about.
Welcome to the 2015 Heroes of the Storm World Championship, where the top 5-player teams on the planet battle for cash prizes and a chance to make history. The Championship begins with a series of open tournaments throughout the world. Local, national and then regional champions will brawl their way to BlizzCon in November for a chance at ultimate glory and a $200,000 cash prize. They’ll be crowned as Blizzard’s first professional Heroes of the Storm champions on the brightest stage in eSports.
Five global regions will send teams to BlizzCon for the 2015 World Championship: Europe, Taiwan, Korea, China and America
I’m still a tad salty at Africa being excluded entirely. I’ve also just noticed what a raw deal some other regions have too. Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand for example are being lumped with America for some reason.
Anyways, the NA June open took place this past weekend. Tempo Storm defeated all opposition, becoming the first team to qualify for the America Regional championship (via Gosu Gamers):
The score between C9M and coL HotS is cut off. C9M won that bout obviously, as they went on to face Tempo Storm in the final, and ultimately lost.

The logic by lumping Aus in with the Americans…..wtf? And having 4 different championships but only selecting 2 teams from it?

Yeah I don’t know O_o it’s so weird. They could’ve rather made the LAN finals feature 16 teams and thus had a better spread across the world. People who say it costs too much money are silly – it’s not like Blizzard don’t have any 😛

Agree, they should have made it a 16 team playoff. I want to see which 2 unlucky teams they going to screw in that “American” group.
