The Console Wars are Over : Move Beats Kinect to win Gamescom Hardware Award

With the way console manufacturers are pushing motion control so hard, it’s blatantly obvious that the future of video gaming rests upon flailing about like an idiot.

Thanks to an expert panel of judges at Gamescom, we can now declare the console wars over for good; Sony’s Move trumped Kinect to win the show’s best hardware accessory award. Of course, the panel was made up of Germans, known for some pretty edgy pornography – so maybe they just voted for something that seemed familiar.  Five other awards were dished out in various categories. Hit the jump for the rest of them.

The full list of six winners were:

Best of Gamescom: Gran Turismo 5
Best hardware accessory: PlayStation Move
Best console game: Gran Turismo 5
Best mobile/handheld game: Super Scribblenauts
Best online game: Guild Wars 2
Best PC game: Crysis 2
Best Family Entertainment: Kirby’s Epic Yarn

Notice anything particular? Not a single 360 game won an award at Gamescom. Even Kinect and its games, which are directly developed for  – and marketed as – family gaming failed to snag the best family entertainment, that accolade instead going to the delightfully pink and fluffy Kirby’s Epic Yarn. lans, our resident GT5 prophet will be glad to know that not only did his beloved racing sim win best console game, it secured best of Gamescom. Maybe that rabid enthusiasm is warranted, eh?

Germany is arguably one of the worst countries to visit, dreadful German TV (although Arte which is a French-German is pretty cool), filthy people and sex shops littering every city centre. The only reason to visit Germany is for the beer, otherwise you might as well be in Romania, because the fail is strong there.

I’m not sure whether Sony should be proud of this award… :getlost:

wow bobby! that’s a pretty sweeping statement to make…

good thing south africa has such an unperverted population, and definitely no adult worlds in every suburb. plus everyone knows the local tv broadcast is of the highest quality 😛

before you ask, i’m not of german descent, i fall squarely in the ranks of the allies 😉

Sadly, it’s true. I spent quite a few years in Europe so you’re getting first-hand unadulterated bile 😀 Although I will apologise for my Romania comment, for all it’s third world problems it’s a charming country, with lovely people. Germany on the other hand… ugh!

Easy, if you don’t believe me mate, go live in Germany for a few years, and see if don’t come out of it hating the the place.

Bobby Kotick’s list of countries to avoid or only visit for a week:

    (a) Germany
    (b) France (the south of France and Brittany are better, Paris is a shithole… Lyon is o.k.)
(c)Poland (Terrible place, depressing… Soviet Union sucked the happiness out of it)
    (d) England (Ugh!… rather visit Ireland or feed the poor in Iceland)

Bobby Kotick list of Awesome European countries to work and study in:
    a) Norway,
    b) Sweden
    c) Netherlands (oddly enough, even though it shares Germany’s obsession with sex shops, it’s a pretty cool country with relaxed folks)
    d) Ireland
    e) Scotland (but beware of drunken Scots in Edinburgh… they’re a violent lot, and refrain from singing “England number 1”)
    f) The rest of Europe, even Switzerland…

I am yet to visit Russia.. 🙁 So I can’t give an opinion on it.

This site is obviously run by Sony fanbois. We only see anti-Kinect news and everyone is obsessed with the fact that Microsoft will be charging $130 for their xbox 360 S 250GB drives (even though 250GB drives can be bought for under $60 now).

    Cry more Sony fanbois!

I don’t see anything wrong with charging $130 for a 250GB drive even though that will mean that the 4GB Xbox 360 Slim will effectively be more expensive than a 250gb Xbox 360, because that’s how we roll!

In your face Sony fanbois! You’re just crying like little girls because the xbox 360 is the superior gaming console and Microsoft has made us its biaatch!!

Oh! It’s lovely for a tourist, especially the first time you stand before the Eiffel tower or go into the Louvre or walk on the avenue des Champs-Elysees (damnit where are the accents on my keyboard), but it’s a terrible place to live and work (try commuting in and out of the city for 2 years). It’s far more polluted than Johannesburg, although less of a hole.

In contrast, Toulousse is a nice city though. I found it to be more relaxed.

It depends, but I found Berliners to be terrible, however much of how you experience another country depends on who you’re with, whether you’re travelling with friends or meeting new people in those countries.

For me, the experience depends greatly on the locals. Berlin is awesome if you travel with friends, it’s definitely an exciting city, but not so much if you want to meet the typical German.

I know it won’t be the same if I called you “an elitist asshole” Geoff, but what’s Wilson’s beef with classical music? Perhaps he should listen to Leo Delibes’s Lakme or the Vivaldi’s four seasons…

I’ve always been partial to somewhat more modern classical artists, along the likes of Rachmaninov.
His Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini is sublime, as are his second and third piano concertos. Such an incredible pianist.

lans, I believe ‘Foreigner – Waiting For a girl Like You’
is more appropriate. Just substitute ‘game’ for ‘girl’ and it makes sense.
