Hey, remember back in mid-march when we spoke about a possible online version of the world of Tamriel? Well, it looks like those rumours were true, as the Elder Scrolls is indeed venturing into the world of online play.
PC and Mac gamers will get to experience the world of Tamriel and all its dragon-slaying glory with each other soon, when The Elder Scrolls Online launches next year. Console gamers however, are being FUS-ROH-DAed out of the door.
Set a thousand years before the events of the previous Elder Scrolls game, Skyrim, Elder Scrolls Online will have players traversing through all of Tamriel, during a period when the super-evil Daedric Prince Molag decides to terrorise the fantasy world.
Iconic locations will be available to explore, Game Informer reports, and will see players revisit such familiar lands as Cyrodiil, Elsweyr and Skyrim.
“We have been working hard to create an online world in which players will be able to experience the epic Elder Scrolls universe with their friends, something fans have long said they wanted,” director Matt Firor said in a press release.
It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years. The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.
Firor has previously worked on the fantasy MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot, while the project itself is the very first game for developer Zenimax Online Studios, which was created back in 2007.
The Elder Scrolls might have a hard time ahead of it though, as the market seems to be growing weary of MMO titles, with games such as Star Wars The Old Republic and World of Warcraft struggling in recent months.
