Guys, I’ve been good. I haven’t bought a single collector’s edition in ages. This includes that wicked awesome one for Batman: Arkham Origins that had that sweet statue. But collector’s editions aren’t going away, and much like a fat person trying to lose weight in a house stocked with chocolates, it ain’t helping when I see special editions like this.
Amazon via AGB leaked the following image for the upcoming The Elder Scrolls Online game, showing off the Imperial Edition that’ll be available when the game arrives later this year. Picture and details for the PS4 edition in three, two, one:
- Collector’s Edition box
- Steelbook packaging
- Molag Bal statue – A 12’ statue of the Daedric prince of domination and enslavement
- Map of Tamriel – A printed map detailing Alliance-controlled zones and the ultimate conquest: Cyrodiil
- Emperor’s guide to Tamriel – 224 pages of illustrations, from the imperial scholar Flaccus Terentia who might have a wife named Incontenentia Buttox
- Play as an Imperial in any alliance
- White Imperial horse
- Mudcrab vanity pet
- Rings of Mara
Not a bad set overall. Statues have always been a popular choice for coleector’s editions, and unlike several other special editions that have been released, the physical contents far outweigh the digital offerings in this pack. Personally, what gets me really drooling for a pricier version of the game isn’t all those bells and whistles.
It’s an art book, plain and simple. But not the kind of art book that is DVD-shaped. I’m talking about a nice big book, that has all the trimmings, such as the one that I got with my collector’s edition of The Witcher 2: Assassin’s of Kings. That’s the kind of content that I’d happily pay big bucks for.

Physical art books and soundtracks are what make me seriously consider getting a collector’s edition.
FFXIV was the last collector’s edition I got and it had an excellent art book and an even better DVD with the soundtrack.

I just bought from an Ebay scab. I hate doing it but I searched high, low and inbetween the sheets for this without adieu. My landlady had one but she wanted me to sleep with her for it and I just couldn’t. She is hot as hell but I have morals. I only paid 60 bucks more than retail though…
