The future of Unreal Tournament to be revealed on May 8

Unreal

If there’s one game that consumed far too many hours of my life, it has to be Unreal Tournament. Grabbing a pulse rifle, going on a rampage and waiting to hear an announcer shout “MULTI-KILL” are just a few of the highlights of that rad shooter. And it’s high time that a new version was developed.

According to Epic Games’ Paul Meegan and Mark Rein, Unreal Tournament is making a comeback. Here’s a trio of  not so cryptic tweets to get your double Enforcer pistols hot and ready:

When you think about, now is the perfect time to bring back Unreal Tournament. Online shooters are once again back in fashion, with high profile games such as Titanfall managing to toss out the single-player side of things completely. Throw in another upcoming high profile game such as Evolve which is also aiming to be primarily online with team-based attitude, and you’ll see my reasoning.

But Unreal Tournament? That game holds a special place in my heart, with any version at any time being a well-aged slice of death and frantic kills.

We used to have a multiplayer server running on our local rack in the office. Every Friday we’d just join a session and jam. Those were good days.

Started a new job in 2004/2005. Played UT with them once and they immediately stopped playing UT at the office…I even had an off day and had to set my cross hairs to 30% 🙁 Loved the game!

I loved getting any of the dual weapons.
You had to kill someone before they could pickup a weapon and then you’d get one of the most powerful weapons in the game, although since there were never any ammo drops you’d have to keep killing people before they could get a weapon.
Otherwise flak cannon for the MONSTER KILL!

It occurs to me that you could accuse Darryn of misspelling even if there wasn’t any and most people would believe you and think that it had been corrected.

Ah, the good old days of playing completely unrealistic shooters and knowing it. I’ve lost many hours to the Unreal games, though I’d probably prefer to see a new Unreal SP rather than a tournament game.
These days we’re running around in games like Battlefield trying to convince ourselves that it’s realistic.
    But it’s fun either way.

Aaah, the good old days of UT2K4. I remember playing a game, getting 25 kills with 0 deaths in 56 seconds. Ludicrous kill! I got UT3 as well, but with them effectively removing LAN as an option, my friends did not get it and I have not played UT3 since the first month after launch. Hope the new one lives up to the old ones!

You can LAN with UT3. My buddies and I play the game at our garage lans often. It’s not quite UT2K4 with its lack strafe jumping, but it’s still shit loads of fun.

Did I miss a setting somewhere? All I really remember is the online profile and all that crap which immediately turned me against the game. Did not even play long enough to realise the lack of strafe jumping!

When you start the game, it gives you the option to login, create a profile or play offline. The only thing is that when you play offline, without creating an online first, then you have to enter you name via the console commands every time you join a local server.
