The good, the bad and the ugly of the last week (25 January 2013)

And yet another week comes to a close. I’ve barely been here, due to the fact that I had to jet off to the land of the flat mountain and ravenous baboons, Cape Town this week, to go grab me a Visa. And while even Romania is hesitant about letting me in, I reckon that I’ll be successful. Here’s our weekly wrap-up of pictures, Batmen, ladies and comments.

Best Story

With gaming in a  bad light yet again due to several violent tragedies, it’s heart-warming to know that somewhere out there, people in the industry still care. Enter our own local branch of Xbox 360, who went ahead and surprised young Keagan Gillepsie with some Halo and Forza goodies, and even got the Master Chief to make an appearance. Well done lads, it’s reassuring to know that at the end of the day, we’re more than just targets for overzealous politicians. We’re people with hearts and love for our fellow gamers.

Faith in humanity restored.

Worst Story

I played Devil May Cry. I clocked it. I finished it. Hell, I’m playing through it for a third time now on a higher difficulty, I love the damn game that much. But as usual, the whiny crybabies of the world just can’t get over the fact that people have different opinions and that DmC might actually be a damn good game, even if it is cosmetically different. While Capcom is using the rage to make some extra coin on the side, another bunch of entitled whiners wants the game taken off the shelves completely, and have petitioned US president Barack Obama to make it so.

I doubt that it will happen though. Because rumours say that Obama happens to be quite thrilled with the game anyway, and is working his hardest to get a SSS score on stage 14. (Citation needed)

THQ is dead! He’s dead Jim! DAMMIT I’M AN IMAGINARY DOCTOR, NOT A STOCK-BROKER! With the former publishing giant deader than my singing career, everyone wanted a piece of the THQ IP pie in Geoff’s article, a discussion which led to 64 comments adding their own two bits to who should get what. And strangely enough, Gavin received the exact amount of comments for his warning about purchasing movies on the Xbox 360. So, it’s a stalemate between the two Gs. Although knowing them, this will end in blood and tears. Most likely mine.

Well crap in a basket, it looks like I finally dethrone Yolanda this week, much to her glee. Nintendo has a habit of milking their most popular franchises, but yet manage to keep the dairy fresh and tasty, year after year. They’ve got some new Mario, Yoshi, Wario and Zelda games on the way, and that includes an HD version of The Wind Waker (SQUUUUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE). Except when it comes to Nintendo, it appears that exactly four whole frigs were given this week.

Kromas is the man with the plan this week, as his comment revolving around Bioware games and multiple endings brought out a torrent of chortles and guffaw from everyone who read it;

It’s going to have a great story and based on your actions you will fight either a green,blue or red dragon at the end.

Bat-Manuel of the week

Dammit, I was 1.5% away from beating Geoff this week, even though I was barely here! Still gratz where gratz is due, as Mr Tim is once again our Bat-Manuel of the week according to the stats. You win this round Geoffrey, you win this round…
