The good, the bad and the ugly of the last week

Are you here? Or are you out on a lake, fishing with DY-NO-MITE? I’m already on my way out on this, the greatest Friday of Fridays. Plus, I’m totally stalking FedEx to find out where my Gears Of War Judgement is. Here’s the weekly wrap-up for those of you who are stuck at work!

Best Story

Saints Row IV is coming. Because in life, nothing is better than over the top sandbox action, destruction and massive purple dildos being smashed into your face.

Worst Story

I’ve got a lot of respect for video game developers, between all the pokes to the ribs that is. These are guys and gals who have invested years of their life into creating something fantastic.

And then you get Richard Garriot, who proceeds to piss away all the good will he has generated lately for his upcoming “Ultima game that isn’t Ultima”. It’s one thing to say that developers in the gaming industry need to step up.

But to put yourself on a pedestal and proclaim to be the greatest ever when your last hit game existed before DLC and micro-transactions? That’s just poor form.

I think its safe to say that the Starcraft 2 Tourney was a resounding success on the weekend. Big ups to the chaps who made it work! But the lead-up to that tourney, and the marketing it as THE BIGGEST EVAR?

Man, that, brought out quite a few debaters, with sides arguing for and against the event, to the tune of over 130 comments.

Least Comments

Even though it means that I’ll be bunking with our local COD team once we touch down in LA for the big Black Ops 2 tourney, it looks like Yolanda’s article about the winning SA team Xtaz only managed to scare up one comment.

Great, thanks guys. Looks like I’ll be explaining to the hopeful young ‘uns why you don’t care whatsoever. Bah.

Batman Of The Week

Batman_vs_Superman_Wallpaper

Boom! I’m totes back baby! Which means that Geoff has to give me back my sweaty bat-suit. Also, why is the cape pink? And why does the chest piece have Hello Kitty stickers plastered all over it? Oh wait, that was me.

Header Image Of The Week

Bambi

True story: There are only two animated film scenes that can make me laugh like a madman. One is the death of Mufasa in The Lion King. The other, is freakin’ Bambi.

I’m so damn hungry for baby deer veal now. Oh don’t look at me like that. You bloody Tomb Raiders are far, far worse than me.

Comment Of The Week

Frequent commentator RinceThis finally uttered something that was funny and not immediately outclassed by something even more amusing this week. Gears of War JudgEment is out today, and Rincewind laid this little gem out, earlier in the week:

Ohh, so not sure on this one. Have read that there is little character development which is a big for me. Having Marcus develop from a block of muscle, to a block of bigger muscle is important to me. Mad World 😉

Well done mate.

Now harness that power and feeling that you had when you made the comment and hone in on it like a blind Monk from the Shaolin Monastery.

With great comments comes greater wisdom. Its all in the flow :p

Na, just liquidate the company. Gamers want shit games with no thought.

I have been playing Tomb Raider the 2007 one where they remade the first. I ACTUALLY HAD TO USE MY FCUKING BRAIN for once. A little hard work and after 10hours it was a good darn videogame. Same kind of feeling after PORTAL.

Then I played Tomb Raider LEGEND 2006… WTF? WTF? WTF? It was the perfect example of how shit this gem has been with crap action hand holding for the FULL RETARDS.

I dont get it. When I was a children the games were harder, now all the fcking things are for the new comers and dumbed down. I WAS A NEW COMER BACK IN 19 EEFING 90.

I’m with you brother. Great games like Darksiders get ignored because you have moments where you can pause, and look around. People say that EA hasn’t fucked the industry? Rubbish, why do creative companies like THQ go under? Because the mindless shovelware is all that people see. It’s like ypu have to dig through all the shit to find anything of worth now…

Yeah and the sick thing is that no-one immediately picked up the license after THQ went belly up. Had goosebumps at the end of Darksiders!
